  • Restore Chat, Please

I understand that 'Chat' has been out of action for nearly 3 months or so now, maybe for the right reasons, I don't know. Now the season has started, I'd like to see the Chat forum restored so we can discuss all the comps in real time. Please consider.

    In Sport, :snooker:

    John From London Town MBE

I'd be interested in reading people's thoughts on whether Chat should be restored or not, please.

    Thanks.

    John

If you want to put £20 a month in to my bank to cover the huge bandwidth bill the chat takes up then yeah no problem I will put it back but there is a serious lack of snooker chat in the chat room and serious lack of interest form a majority of the members.

As you said 3 months it has been down for and this is only the second time it has been mentioned.

I enjoyed the chat as well but must admit that it didnt get used very much, it was always the same 8 or 9 people and only at certian times.

it is fun to discuss matches as they happen though.

Fair enough. If there are overheads from a cost perpsective then I understand. No problem.

          Thanks,

I agree its a shame but even the people who never used to leave (Me, April madness, Ja and Marc) stopped using it towards the end so it does seem pointless

Shame as me, nam, rgc, forman, davis greatest had many good snooker related discussions between midnight and 6am

True Roy, I noticed that but only in passing...
as I do tend to avoid group chats.... they seem chaotic and it makes me feel shy.

One thing about this issue I remember is Ferret agreeing some time ago that the "Chat" facility
could be made far more interesting and win many participants [ myself included ] if there were a LIVE
Q & A with various pro players or promoters or coaches or referees or table fitters, etc. with a
"Themed and Moderated Chat" at a scheduled time with TSF members.

Ferret what happened with that idea?

That can still happen but lets say I arrange for John Higgins to pop in for a chat which he wants to do, 50 people pop into chat but only 3 people ask him a question, it will be a waste of his time.

If you also remember I spent over £2,000 last year on a system called Jabber (the same technology that MSN, Yahoo, AOL and even FaceBook used for chat) and I only had I think it was 5 people wanting to try it out so for TSF I scrapped it, shame really as we could of integrated it into other snooker website (There were plenty of them wanting to use it with us)

On the good side of the Jabber thing my time and cash did not goto waste as a large financial institution based in Birmingham who I do all the IT for now use this system through out their three offices and it has totally revolutionised the way that their staff communicate and it has been estimated it saves them over 500 man house per year just in non business communications as all the other systems are now blocked through out the company.
