    Suggestions

    I have a couple of suggestions, which operate on another site which I use.

    1. The ability to 'ignore' certain forums, or even posts, such that topics don't then appear in the 'New Posts' lists. For example, I have absolutely no interest in the dozens of topics about cues, so I'd love to be able to ignore that whole Forum and leave out all those topics from 'New Posts'.
    2. How about the ability to tick/cross (agree/disagree) with a post, so that you can visually see what reaction there is to a post. Cuts out the need to post short replies that just agree or disagree with something that someone else has said.

    I like the idea of No.1 will see what I can do, as for No.2 we have had this in a number of forms but not one of them have worked without there being problems, for example stupid, idiotic threads being started by constant off topic posts and all their childish little friend liking the threads or posts which actually causes inaccurate statistics for good and bad posts. Also you generally find that it is only a small minority that use this type of feature of the forum.

      you could use the "thank you" feature for vB

      or just a simple reputation feature, so everytime someone puts a post worth reading it gets acknowledge with a rep button and increases there rep..

      not a lot of people really care i know but its a nifty feature and may make others take note and contribute some informative posts (not that they dont already of course )
      what a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....

        Luke we have used the post thank you mod, the inbuilt reputation feature and a few others and all have been abused.

        Even the Tag cloud which should be there to help people find relevant subjects for the previous month was abused by members placing irrelevant key words in a large number of threads just to see their name or the name of their favorite cartoon character in big letters on the front page.

          Interesting to hear your comments about abuse of an agree/disagree function. I've seen it work well in other forums, and generally doesn't get abused, bar a very occasional troll who will take a dislike to someone and cross all of his posts.

          That same site shies away from being able to edit one's own posts (or even delete them) because of the fear of abuse, yet that exists on this site and, to my knowledge, doesn't seem to create any problems. I would have thought that was far more likely to be abused than ticks and crosses on posts.

            Posts that are deleted by members are only soft deleted, myself or any mod can put a soft deleted post back any time we want and when a member edits a post there is a history of the edits left and again we can put any of the edited posts back when we want.

              I fully appreciate that, but it does rely on mods keeping a close eye on things. I guess, though, that TSF is a much smaller site and a lot easier to monitor and moderate.

                I remember going through old posts here and being surprised when reading about the troubles the forum underwent due to the rep feature, too. Especially given the fact that there is relatively small number of posters who are actually active.

                I didn't want to start a new thread, but I have read this post and wanted to ask whether Off Topic Chat forum has been included into this. The posts don't show on the front page.

                  The post linked, does in fact say that Off Topic items won;t be included in the front page. I thought the main page had been pleasantly devoid of cue topics, and had thought the forums much slower. Now I know why.

                      how about having something so you can view threads you are currently involved in, so a page of the threads you have posted on in the last week lazzy i know but would be handy
