I've never seen a forum with as many posts quoting the previous post in full. It makes for terrible reading, it's absolutely pointless and totally unnatural.

To be honest I don't agree that quoting is pointless, particularly if a conversation involves several people it can be a pain working out who a response is directed at without a quote. You could probably argue that they're overused sometimes, but I wouldn't want them gone entirely.
They are pretty clearly marked out so it shouldn't be hard to skip over them, though granted you do have to scroll a bit more.
(Managed to resist the temptation to quote you in my reply ).

Come off it, of course it's pointless. Admittedly though clicking on a quote button is easier than typing : "With regard to what Fred said "( as you would say or write anywhere else. It's the plonker who quotes the previous 400 word post that annoys me though especially when all he adds is "I agree."
Ah well, mission acomplished, maybe some will read this post and lay off the habit a bit.
(I oh so nearly quoted you too but in this small text I was tempted to write: "sod it, if you cant beat them join them" ).

First off, keep the quote option, please! It's nifty!
Secondly, I must comment on the quoted post below.
What amuses me about this one is that it contains several spelling errors. No less than five errors in seventeen words. That's almost one in three words!
There should be a comma after Skypigeon as she is being addressed.
White should have a capital, as it's a name.
There is no space before a question mark.
There is an apostrophe in couldn't.
There should be an apostrophe before till making it 'till, but it would be better to write until.
If you're going to poke fun of other people's typos, make sure your posts are free of errors first.

Why is it that arguments on the internet always seem to devolve into trading insults about grammar. English isn't even the first language of half our members.
Let's not. It appears that popular opinion is weighing in favour of quotes, but out of interest does anyone else agree with Wity that quotes should be removed?

I dont believe they should be removed either. As a forum owner myself though I do wish instead of quoting the entire post that the relevant bit(s) be quoted instead, but otherwise it's a very useful function that should remain."I tried to be patient, but it took too long"

I think I know how to write my own nickname, thanks.

I agree with Wity that some people do pointlessly quote which can be annoying. But on the whole it is a useful option."You can shove your snooker up your jacksie 'cos I aint playing no more!" Alex Higgins.
