Names should be given to all this rep stuff. I've looked at mine, and most of positive stuff is signed by name, while the negative ones aren't.

Get rid of it. If someone has someone has something to say, let them say it in public. Don't be a coward and tick some silly little negative button.

The snooker forum is the first forum where I've encountered this reputation feature. At first I was a bit baffled by it and didn't understand why you'd want it in the first place.

Now that I've understood how it works I've actually come to like it, but for reasons that may not necessarily have anything to do with its intended purpose: It is simply a nice way to let a member know you liked a particular post and show your appreciation in a more personal manner. If I green-rep a member's post it means more than 'just' posting "I agree with/like/laughed my hat off at what you just said". Especially if I have nothing of value to add to a thread but really just liked that particular post. This is particularly true if you come onto a thread say 4 or 5 days after it's run it's course.

Now for the anonymous repping: I am generally in favour of stating who you are if you rep. I'm not too bothered (yet) by the anonymous red rep I've gotten, but from what I've gathered it seems there is one or two people on here who do nothing but anonymously red-rep and have made a sport out of it. And that is simply silly.

So I'm for keeping the reputation-feature but you should not be able to rep anonymously. If that is not possible, keep the green rep feature but skip the red.

On another level: is it possible to list more than the the last five reps you received? And is it possible to list the reps you yourself have handed out? This would be particularly helpfull if you want to rep someone again but can't because you need to "spread the rep around" before you do.

could you alter it in such a way that you have to earn to right to negative re, Eg for every 5 positive reps you give you can give one negative, (although there is no limit on positvie repping.)

This would stop people just going wild and giving everybody negative rep for everything anyone says.

Another idea could be that negative reps should only be possible for posts older than a day ... would give people the time to cool down or forget

            I agree.
I can understand ppl disagree each other , that makes the world go round ..but would be great if they had the guts to put a reason and a name to the reps they give. IMO .. when disagree it's far more easier to make a post on the forum and say so ,l that way we'll have a debate and therefore more fuss around . As far as i am concerned red reps are for those who are plain rude on the forum to the players or the members and i've never used the " silly little negative button" till now.

I don't think this whole reputation thing makes any sense. Positive ones aren't harmful of course, even I used it once or twice if I completely agreed with someones comment, and didn't want to write "I agree", which is not a very interesting and useful comment. I still think most of the people use pos. reps as a present to friends on the board.
Negative rep is absolutely useless. If I would disagree with someone I would surely never use the "I disapprove" function to tell that. This is a public forum, and forums are for debates. Giving a bad rep = unable to make a point in my book. If you disagree, why not prove you are right? Even if you can't persuade someone you shouldn't give a bad rep. The fact that someone disagrees with you doesn't mean his/her comments are not valuable..

I agree, but I do like the positive rep, it gives anyone reading their posts what other members think about them.

Even though I used to rep good/useful/very interesting/funny comments, given the choice to vote I'm against this kind of grading. In my opinion the option to rate threads covers everything if there's a need to rate within the microcosms of a message board.

I got a negative rep, not signed of course, making a comment about White entering the premier league. I know who did it so I gave him one back! Signed of course!

I got a negative rep the other day for a match report on the TSF Pool League.

Whoever is doing this, I hope you are enjoying it!

OK we have noted everybodys comments on this subject and there are some great suggestions in there. Currently the system we have will remain......but we are looking at a better syster which I think you will all like as it features some of the things you have mentioned that you would like.

More on that at a later date though.

                            Thanks for the update.

I hope it will be possible for all the rep points and power that people have built up to be carried forward to the new system ?

To the admins : Has the rep point system been tweeked a bit recently ?

I ask this because I notice on the members by rep list that The Statman has suddenly and inexplicably been overtaken at the top by 3 people. Many other positions in the list seem to have altered suddenly by fairly large margins aswell.

                              http://www.thesnookerforum.com/membe...utation&pp=100

Or maybe there has just been a lot of rep point bombing going on ?

Or a third possibilty : could it be with a lot of members currently getting extra rep power points, this affects rep given by them in the past, increasing the value of all reps ever given out by them ?

No tweaks mate no, whats happening is that where more people (probably by reading this thread) now know about the reputation feature they are now using it more. So top posters like the 5 people at the top of the list are getting more +rep which gives them a high score so when these top five people leave rep for someone else because of their high rep they inturn give a higher rep!

                                Did I just confuse you?

Right if a new member leaves rep they give 1 point, where if April madness leaves rep because of this users high score they leave 4 points, if a moderator leaves rep I think that is 5 points and if I leave rep it is 10 points.

So no nothing tweaked just being used more.
