  • Campaign To Save Photo Blog

In my humble opinion the gallery on TSF is one of the most valuable features of the whole forum. Members use it post some brilliant photos of themselves and the venues that they have been to.

It's just a great way for forum members to connect with each other. I've also used it to host images for ebay and save a few pence - but I'd better not mention that. Considering that we all spent a fair bit of time uploading off-topic and snooker related photos I think it's an essential part of the site and needs to stay. It's just such a conveniet add-on. Take for example the puzzle threads recently - lots of the related images are stored on the site, for example caption competitions and d_g's wierd number questions.

i agree it is excellent, but if its causing problems then id be happy for it to go, AS LONG AS AN ALTERNATIVE can be set up....that way existing pics could remain

perhaps an e-mail addy for pics to be sent to a moderator, who can upload them separately

    ?

Honestly I think that if Mods have to upload the pics that will not be sustainable. (Or did I misunderstand you Sem?)
I agree that the photo blog is a great part of this site, and if it is not possible to make it work properly, it should be replaced. I would be a shame if it disappeared.

        think you got it Mon....

once all the existing pics are transferered, from then on, any new pics be e-mailed to a set address that a moderator picks up once every few days or so, and uploads

(other quiz pics etc can be hosted temporarily on free sites by users and linked to)

Re-quote of dantuck_7 first sentance but in my own words - In my humble opinion the gallery on TSF is one of the most vulnerable features of the whole forum.

The bad programming of the photo blog can (Without going into too much detail) allow hackers to access the forum database.

I can keep images that are used in threads in the current upload folder thats not a problem but I would need a list of the image names to keep them there.

I don't have a problem setting up an additonal email address for people to send me images but a better option would be for me to make a upload section myself for you to use but the better option would be to use a free upload site adn then for us to make a webpage which lists all of our users account names and links to their albums.

If flicker was used we can utilise the RSS feeds and even put the latest image sonto a page.

If you do have any images tha you want to save for the photo blog don't be in a rush to do it as I have all of the current images backed up adn I can retrieve them as needed.

              Yeah no problems at all.

I am not sure about uploading pictures to use on eBay listings though you should see the bandwidth usage of the site!

We are currently useing around 30000 Megabytes of bandwidth a month (Costing at £1 per 1000 Megabytes)

I got some good news and I also got some bad.

The good news is you can start using the new photo gallery right away if you want but the bad news is that it is not integrated into the users database table .......... this means that you have to register on the photogallery for a account, you cannot just jump from forum to gallery and stil be logged in.

The problem with the integration was that the forum is on www.TheSnookerForum.com on a server in the UK and the location of the image gallery (not gonna give it to ya just yet) is on a server in the USA although it is stil lpart of thesnookerforum.com domain name.

For this reason we could not integrate it, now if you all want to wait say 6 weeks then I can integrate it, its just finding the time to do it you see (Would probably take a good 4 days) adn I am quite short of time at the moment.

Let me know what you think? your gallery username and password can be exactly the same as your forum one so its not that much hastle.

Thanks Ferret for the good news! I'm sure many here will be all

As for the "bad news"... well personally I don't really care. On one hand It could be a bit cumbersome to need to enter the credentials twice, on the other hand having the photoblog as independant entity with separate login might have its advantage: it would stay accessible independantly of the forum.

I'm happy waiting a few weeks to combine the two accounts.

Have all the old photos been saved?
