  • Showing more posts per page

In the "Edit Options" page of the User Control Panel, there is an option to change "Number of Posts to Show Per Page". Currently the maximum is 40. Would it be possible to increase this maximum?

I noticed that on www.snookertalk.com, which seems to have a very similar design to this forum, the maximum posts per page is 200. I think it would be good if 200 (maybe even 500) posts per page could be allowed here, for those who want it, if not too difficult to change.

Edit: or could we add an option to "Show All" on one page, so there is no maximum?

I think a show all option would sometime make the computer go bananas, like the quiz thread for instance! Good idea to change the max to something higher though.

Yes, 'show all' would be a bit much for big threads, mostly for the receiving browser but I don't think TSF's server would be happy about it either.

Even 500 seems a bit excessive to be honest, I don't think I'd be able to stand waiting for 500 posts to display when usually I'd only want to read the last half dozen. I appreciate that it'd be nice to have the option but that has to be balanced with effective allocation of finite resources.

I'll put in options for 50, 75 and 100 for the moment, and possibly increase that again if/when we move to a faster server or if the change makes negligible difference.

If you're asking because you're interested in saving a 'backup' offline copy of a large thread though (no idea which one that might be ) I could certainly help you with that.

Thanks Robert. And yes, the main purpose is to be able to back up threads occasionally Any ideas...?

If you want to backup threads remember that we don't delete any!!! you can go back to the start of the forum and see what we were all saying.

But you can also goto http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board/archive/index.php and find the thread you want to back up, this is the plain txt version of the foum
