    Why does it say "You may not edit your posts" on the bottom of each page?

        will there be a section where first posts be able to be edited, for the likes of running "comps" where lists are updated on the first post as more people join, for ease of use?

          The easy answer is no, but we will be making provitions for this as a selected few who like AlexOpaul and TheStatman will be able to edit their posts.

            cheers ferret

            was only posting to highlight this (even though it almost certainly wouldnt have been forgotten) so that others are aware that existing threads they have done, be it Statsy, ALex, or ANOTHER arent able to be edited (unless on site staff)...or similar

              An absolutely terrible decision if you ask me. And the worst thing about it is that no question has been asked whether this is a change that the members want or not!! It's a sad day when owners can change major things as they like without asking for the support of their users first. Also giving a few "selected" users the option of editing posts is something I strongly dislike. This type of dictator-like governing makes me wanna quit the site.

                I know you put a lot of effort into some of your posts Hegeland, so I can understand where you are coming from.

                However, maybe you are over-reacting a little bit.

                  I dont think I would go quite that far Hegeland as in quitting the board. As a site owner myself I recognise the need to implement this, though maybe 5 minutes might be a tad tight.
                  On my board we have it set at 12 hours but that was mainly due to our fear of people coming in after that time and removing torrents from the site.
                  With regards to editing of posts though on a site like this the measures Ferret has taken are entirely necessary IMHO.

                    It will have the effect of making the site more rough and ready.

                    People wont be able to perfect their posts anymore.

                      I don't quite understand why it was necessary to change it. What did I miss? What kind of problems were there?

                      I don't really care if there is an edit function or not, the only time I change something is if I find mistakes and 5 minutes are enough for that.

                        But why?? What's the bloody point of not being able to correct an error in a post you've made? It says perfectly clear at the bottom that the post has been changed, and when.

                        If I'll have to contact a moderator every time I need to change something, like in for instance a TV schedule, or a video list, which are two very recent personal examples, I won't post them at all.

                        And yes, I am mad about the fact that this change has been implemented without asking the members first and unbelievably even without a motivation.

                        I demand an explanation.

                          If i had to ask the members before changing anything I would of had to started atleast 30 threads today.

                          The reason if you must know for changing the edit options was me catching a disgruntled member editing all of their posts and deleteing their content.

                          There is a reason for me running the forum and not others.

                          Tell you what hegeland you want me to ask you every time I change something yeah so here we go.

                          I need to point a subdomain of Http://gallery.thesnookerforum.com which is on;
                          NS443.HOSTGATOR.COM IP 70.87.237.50
                          NS444.HOSTGATOR.COM IP 70.87.237.51

                          to my server;

                          ns1.wiltshire-hosting.com IP 85.13.239.108
                          ns2.wiltshire-hosting.com IP 85.13.239.109

                          How should I do it?
                          Via a CNAME or A record change?

                          And how do I setup the sub-doamin on my WHM? do I use the standard cPanel account setup procedure or do I have to enter the full DNS entrys via SSH????

                            Got another one for you hegeland

                            Just been sorting out the MX records for the forums email.

                            If I point the MX records to mail.gonzo.wiltshire-hosting.com will that also route the incoming mail to the new server?

                            and will I have to setup a A record for the domains email or will the old server handle that???

                            Do hurry up with some answers I need to get on.

                              In a few weeks we are moving server probably on a Tuesday night at 3am to prevent disturbance, but how long do you think the nameservers will takie to propogate?

                              Should we tell the members 2 hours or 4???
