I dont know Vbulettin but could you set it up so that members of a certain level can edit posts, easily done in IPB I know. That would be a compromise.

I have just tryed to upload the SQL backup of the forum to the new server the file is 85 meg but the SQL server has a 15 meg time out.

How should we proceed to upload the database?

Should we try to use SSH and do it via the shell or should we use a programme like BigDumb??

Well until you answer me I can not get the Image gallery up and running, everybodys emails are being delayed and we may have to selay the server move.

Have I made my point clear enough or should I continue?

Oh just one more question, how many forum that you are a member of allows you to edit your posts at all? emmmmm for me I am a member of over 100 forum and I only know of 9 that allow me to do that, 8 of those I am the administrator of.

It's only right that the ability to edit is removed after a certain time, people coming in and editing or deleting content will make topics impossible to follow.

And yet you can't resist to be sarcastic and behave like a minor. That is sad.


But what you do tell me, in between the lines of condescending sarcasm, is that you don't need to ask your members anything. You can do as you like. Because you are the head mod and owner. That is all technically correct. But, and this is a big but, it is not right to make a major change that affects all the users heavily without notice or without explanation or without asking. It is just not right.

Hegeland, This board has some 4000+ members. Admins have to make decisions every day to keep it running smoothly. You just cant ask members. I have 450,000+ members, we have 4 admins, the co owner and myself plus 22 mods. There's more to it than meets the eye mate.

It is a question of good practice, common courtesy, call it whatever you like. Look at how ferret has responed to my "Support/Helpdesk"-question. This is not the way to behave.

Exactly, I did not inform or ask the board members before removing this feature for not even 48 hours as it is a small decision and not a major change.

Yes I did close the thread because I don't see why I should waste my time talking to you, read your own comment.

The edit post feature would of probably been back by now if I had spent my time working on it instead of talking to you.

Oh and when I close a thread, I close it for a reason and I do not expect for a new one on the same subject to be reopened.

For him to talk to you like that he obviously doesnt have much idea of how much a valuable and popular member you are here, and how much poorer this forum would be without you!

I think hegeland should be silent for a few days and take the time to chill out a little and maybe when he comes back he will realise his total inappropriate reaction.

and Marc I do realise how much of valuable and popular member hegland is, this is why I am wondering why he is reacting is such a pathetic way.
