Hi all - I've just finished my uni work for the year and have a fair bit of extra time on my hands so I thought I'd spend some of it doing a bit of technical work on TSF.

As far as I'm aware there are no bugs on TSF at the moment (though do correct me if I'm wrong), so I'll be looking to improve current features and add new ones.

    Chat
Since there have been a few complaints about it recently I thought I might start with the chat. The shoutbox was never intended for chat and has obvious problems with privacy and can feel unwelcoming. The newer separate chat system (the 'Click here for Live Chat' link) suffers from a lack of integration with TSF and as far as I know it gets very little use.

I've tried to customise and integrate the latter system with no great success, so I've since been looking at alternatives. I've quickly put in one system on a test page here that I think has some potential (only works with the 'TSF/TSF light' skins for the moment).

Any feedback on chat would be useful (current / potential problems, ideas etc), particularly because I rarely use it myself.

    Other plans
A few other ideas I might tackle afterwards depending on interest levels (and subject to approval from the higher powers):

Customisable home page, for example to allow members to filter out forum sections they're not interested in from the recent threads list.

Better automated system for detecting members with multiple accounts (this one's for definite).

The option of a dynamic/wider version of the TSF skin for widescreen or high resolution monitors.

    Vbookie.

Some larger, longer term things including new skins for TSF and the gallery and possibly a more prominent stats section.

    Anything else?

As we disscussed in the chat, I think the new chat is great! :snooker:

        Boss has bright ideas

Change the grey background. I suggest a poll for the new colour.

Ditch the newspaper icon. Most threads on the homepage have it and it looks dull.

Make it compulsory to choose an icon for every message you post. Would brighten things up.

I remember those 3 month holidays!!

Although for my summer breaks - I'd be off hiking somewhere not touching up this website!

I think that if you get put on someones ignore list you should get told about it somehow, may it be private message etc

There could be a few more smilies but that isnt a vital thing.

Also i think that the new chat is brilliant and should be kept

I disagree - I extensively use the ignore feature at another vbulletin forum (the Crapwagon.com racing forums, which I have been a member of for 6 years) and I don't want people I'm annoyed with there to get PMs about the fact I won't read their drivel. :snooker:

Yes please. I was about to start a thread about that today. I´m getting sick and tired of first thing you heard in the morning and World snooker game questions. Thanks in advance.

Any luck with that improved Stats section. Link to the results on GSC so that head to head results and common lists (eg number of final appearances) are permenantly up-to-date?

I might get flamed for this one - How about a spell-check?

What about extended profile options? The thing I have in mind is the option to show/hide these symbols. ♀♂

I don´t know what promted thi suggestion. Just thought it might come in handy sometimes..

Could we get rid of this?

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

I would like to express my belief it wouldn´t be too abused.

I think the search facility should be extended to 3 letter words as well. If technical reasons such as index size are prohibitive then at least selected 3 letter words like "cue" "tip" etc should be indexed.

I think this is one of the main reasons why we have many repetetive threads in the Cues section. People try to search with the word "cue". Search fails. A new thread is born.

Searching for topics like "cue care" , "cue used by xxxxx" are all difficult.

Dont ban people....put them in a locked room on the forum...let them and them alone talk in it to each other for a week...and feed in Barry Manlow music every now and then.
