I have just visited 'my' page today and find I have received a 'reputation' for my Introduction thread in the Crucible records.

There appears to be no comment attached and I wondered what its significance was.

Is this the same as 'referral' of which I have 3 apparently, and do not know what they are either!

And, can I see these referrals?

Reputation can be given using the 'rep' button on the black header bar of every post. If you get enough reputation points, that little green square becomes two little green squares. People can also give negative reputation, typically for abusive, spamming or misleading posts. The more 'rep power' the person giving the reputation has, the more effect it has.

Reputation is meant to reward posts people find useful. It serves two purposes, to encourage people to post helpful things and secondly to allow new users to see which members to really pay attention to.

Referrals are different, if people sign up to the site because of a recommendation by you, they can put your name in when they register and you are credited with referring them (eg, Mitsuko leads the way because of his advertising of this board on the beeb). I don't think there's any way you can see who exactly the referrals come from.

I think there maybe a problem with the reputation mod. Yesterday I gave rep to Carol when she was already on 1, it didn't go up to 2. Also I can see in my panel I have recieved 2 rep points yet only 1 appears next to my name. Also as far as I can see there is only 1 member who has more than 1 rep point (ferret being that person with 10 ).
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

How do you see what reputation members have? (I assume this is different from "Rep Power".)

somebody gave your thread more rep today (I started out a few days ago giving it 4 - just playing around really)
but I also gave you some rep points yourself DJ. Have no idea where to check to whom I doled out points, or if I got any though.
Can one give points to his/her own threads?

I guess the only way to check, how much rep you have relative to other people, is ordering the member list by rep... and having done that right now:

Well, somebody did give me some reputation, I just found out (and now I also know why), I am so proud (up there with Cyril and Cessy and AG)

How do you order the member list by reputation? I remember doing it once before, but don't remember how I did it.

Edit: Oh, I've just found the Member List. The other day I was looking where to find it, and couldn't find it anywhere. This time I found it straight away on the Home page.
