  • Excuse me but WTF!?!

Someone just posted a thread telling about a Buddhist retreat and inviting people to sign up.
True it was not about snooker... but dantuck_7 put it back into the ballgame with a comment to the effect ...
"Well do they have a snooker table?"I thought that was funny and timely as I had just had a conversation
with khizzy about "Zen in the Art of Archery" being applicable to Snooker.

So... I made up this apropos image and posted it to that thread.

    Someone deleted the whole thread...
and without a word of explanation to anyone.
    So... WTF!???

Same here, saw that thread and wanted to take a look again, but coudn't find it anymore... There was a similar case of thread dissapearing recently too, maybe you were still away then. But I'd say this is justifiable to delete as spam, not just because it's not snooker related, but because it is an advertisement (and here just locking it would be leaving the spam). Just that if that one was a true offer, and they do provide some scholarships, I'd maybe even go

    Same offer

    Another case of thread deletion
Co-winner of Spike’s 2009 UK Championship number of centuries prediction contest.

    RIP Noel. RIP.

Thanks for your comments and links ore.
That ad was inoffense... it was jacked back to supposedly TSF-approvable content and removed without a trace.
That kind of censorship has been the subject of much concern and comment in the past and has resulted in members
being "pre-modded" or "banned" and more than a few strong-minded members saying "Bye Bye TSF"...
the kind of contributors this forum sorely needs, yet because of thick-thinking, drives away.
It's one understandable thing to censor the profane or slanderous or mean and nasty... the offensively inappropriate.
But that axe needs be wielded by someone with a measure of responsibilty and accountablity.
It's ok to allow posts of large pictures of silicone skanks in lingerie but the interesting, unusual and possibly stimulating threads/posts get deleted... what if they started removing the simply stupid ones?
      Then where would we be?

Yeah, now it seems I'll have to change no.1 site where to go if I wanna see some snooker discussion, and it's 1 day before one of just 6 ranking events!.. But I know where I'd go to sell something that looks like a cue if I found it in my grandma's cellar Or if I wanna enter numerous user friendly prediction versions

So yeah I guess it's all true what you summed up noel, I was told about the same by some other 'old' member here that said discussion part has nearly evaporated.. (So I joined a few years too late :/ ).

I just wonder what's exactly the aim?
It must be to make this place as politically correct as possible... to be the most attractive to median-voter, who thinks less, buys more? And since numbers of such will always be higher than those willing to have juicy discussions... why to worry that there are no discussions on here anymore? Please prove this logic wrong

The post was removed because it was spam one of hundreds which are removed every month, just that this time you actually got to see one of them because none of the moderators or me were online at the time, spam is spam if its a link to a adult site or to a site which has no adult content but is clearly non snooker related and the poster clearly signed up just to post a link.

If all the spam that gets posted on here was left then the forum would be a mess, you would not be able to find anything and the forum would of closed along time ago.

The biggest problem on the forum is the people who spend all of their spare time on here and think that they know how to run the forum better than anybody else just because they have an opinion on how it should be run without even knowing a 10th of what actually happens behind the scenes. If the forum has such a lack of discussion then leave, here is a link you can use CLICK HERE

Up until 8 months ago I was involved as an Admin at a filesharing community site that had far more members than here. We had six Admins and a shedload of Mods. 3 of those Admins were solely dedicated to Community Discussion and every day we spent half our time validating members and removing spammers so that our members could have a clean board. Yes, the occasional one was missed and we got the same objections that have been raised here but I have never been on a forum where the Admins and Mods are questioned on their actions as they are on TSF.

They are not paid for what they do and yes at times they will get it wrong and should be questioned but everyone needs to realise it's not a democracy on here because the place would collapse if it was. Their board, their rules. Live with it guys.
Good work Ferret and the team.

P.S On the lack of discussion front. There are only six events. It was in my opinion natural that discussion would be limited. With the new calendar next season should be more lively.

                          Ferret.
Since I was the one who started this thread, I feel it my responsibility to reply to your post.
Thank you for making the comments you did. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns
about the dangers of spam. How it makes for messy confusion which without the vigilance of you
and the moderators could possibly choke TSF to death. I'm glad that didn't happen today.
But, no, not even that is the biggest threat to TSF... it's members are...
those members who you worry want to run (ruin?) the forum because they have stupid opinions on it.
They actually are the biggest problem the forum has. Isn't that like saying any and all criticism is invalid and treasonous?
Am I the one being paranoid for wondering if I will be banned for asking this?
And finally you showed the out door link to members who lament a lack of discussion. STFU and leave is your horribly ironic solution to that.

Before I get banned, let me say very baldly that my post was a suggestion that, if you choose to remove threads and posts,
you show the members, whose contributions you destroy in the process, the common courtesy of a heads up and an explanation,
so that they can save and possibly repost their thoughts in another way, in another thread perhaps.
At no point did it mean to usurp your power Ferret.

                          Peace and understanding.

                          Noel

Noel, If any member makes a reply in a thread which is obvious spam they should realise that their contribution will be deleted along with said spam. It's only common sense. Also your quote..'Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns
about the dangers of spam. How it makes for messy confusion which without the vigilance of you

that is just taking for granted the work that the Mods and Admins do to keep the place clean, clean for ALL of us. And no, I am not defending Ferret here, I do not even know him but I do know what it takes to run forums like these and I do not like when members such as you spout on and on about ill perceived wrongs.

I really hope they don't give brownoses jobs here
At the risk of being banned myself mate, you really are an ASS.
