Because this bulletin board code doesn't read HTML code. Your table code is pure HTML code. It's similar to trying to make a C++ parser read Javascript. Two different languages. Not possible.
Perhaps an update ruined it. Or a change of settings. I know a simple a href used to work before also, but no longer. Perhaps it's a security measure to weed out unwanted HTML code.
