i have just looked at this thread again after starting it several months ago, and i see there is more fascinating stuff about the legend that is Walter Lindrum, the debate as to whether other players, in effect only Davis and Smith were actually catching up to him I can only speculate, but i 'feel' that although Davis and Smith knew all the shots so to speak, they simply could not match Walter's phenomenal speed of scoring.
what actually happened to Walter after 1934 would be interesting to know, as on the face of it he seems to have gone in to a sort of 'one player' world? i do not think he played any serious competitive matches after that but i may be wrong?
    coming soon Walter's secret.

I you haven't read 'Walter Lindrum Billiards Phenonenon' by Andrew Ricketts then I certainly recommend it. It is an excellent biography and an excellent account of his life. Very knowledgeable and interesting book about Walter's life.

from what I've seen on recordings (he was before my time honest) ... there is little doubt in my mind that Walter was the best that ever has been, and might ever be ....

I would love to read the Andrew Ricketts book, but it seems to be out of print, and each time it comes up on ebay it goes for £40+.

I know i could buy and resell without really losing anything, but i tend to keep the books i read (I am not a collector, just a bit sad!!), so cannot justify paying that for less than 200 pages.

Great thread people. Walter Lindrum is my favourite cueman ever. I highly recommend the Ricketts book!! Well worth a read if you are interested in the history of billiards and Walter Lindrum. Youtube vids are awesome!! Thanks again.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
                I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Fascinating thread on the great Walter Lindrum. Enough already said and proven of his amazing prowess. An interesting little fact that I have not noticed mentioned ( with the recent olympic gold medalist being similarly endowed) Walter was acknowledged by his homeland in a postage stamp in his honour. I have one in my memorabilia collection. F.

My dad used to pick out balls for "Wally" at his Billiard room for a few shillings a week as well as fee access to tables.

At the ages of 5 I didnt know who the person was all the lodge people talked about in our Billiard Room, wasnt until the 70's I started looking into him as well as all the other players of his time.. Walter was a freak and I did read he played Snooker but got boared with the game due to in his works "silly game, pot all the balls and then start again, I would rather spend 4-5 hours on the table pushing 3 balls around".

My good friend and former Australian Billiards Champion posted this on YouTube.. its a poem that has been floating around for as long as I can remember.. enjoy

Plenty more.. actually a friend at the club I now play at had never played Billiards before and is the best Snooker Player in the club (after Jessica Woods)
He played in the Masters as well but I could see it was raw for him, we talked and he said he had been watching youtube videos of Walter to learn Billiards.. unreal!

Thanks so much for posting this wonderful piece billiard history. Nice to see it comes from Joe Minici who I know was a pleasant and hugely accomplished player in the league in which my son Richard played in during his work placement in Oz 2007 -2010. If you meet Joe please pass on my regards to him. F
Is there any chance you may know where I could get hold of a hard copy of the poem to add to my collection. If so could you drop me an e.mail from my site wwwfranksandellcuesport.co.uk . Thanks again. F.
