Santa bought me the DVD of the final.
5 hours very well spent IMHO.
I (try to) play the game myself, have had a couple of 80s, and agree Mike Russell makes the game look incredibly simple.
The only comment I have to make about the DVD is that because so much of the play is at the top of the table, the baulk end probably is not the best position for the camera to be.
I don;t know what the set up is like at the Northern Snooker Centre (keep saying I will go, but never make it) but I think the coverage would benefit from an over head shot, you would then have much more of an idea of what the players are having to do to keep going - if this was allied to the use of the spotted balls as referred to in commentary then I am sure the appreciation level and understanding would be greatly increased.

I was there. I can understand your comments regarding the camera position though on the ebos website it has been said that the ability to see the player positioning his ball in the D from behind has been advantageous.Bearing in mind that this was a highly professional attempt to make a good DVD by Colin Lewis and also Martin Goodwill who divided his time both playing and assisting with the filming and only I believe an Indian TV. company did any last day coverage, it is brilliant. With regard to the use of spotted balls I also believe that it would be to great advantage and enquiries are being made of the manufactuers in this regard. Considering the commentary is dubbed it is also first class.

I guess Dhruv sitwala won the semi-final against Geet Sethi by just 1 point(no disrespect to Dhruv), but geet sethi would have given a better competition to mike russell for the title and would have made a better final. Dhruv does not have the smooth top table game as russell or geet. You need to make breaks of 400 plus in order to be a world championship. Dhruv is always struggling to get to the top, while geet or russell just gets there so easily. And scores so easily. Geet loves the postmans knock while mike is a floating white specialist.

Well said, could not agree more with you regards the camera position spoilt an otherwise excellent effort. If you have the previous years DVD's which were handled by Brian Watson from Yorkshire billiards that camera position and quality is the best we have yet had, if you are on this forum Martin why change a winning formula? Yorkshire billiards used a semi pro Sony camera set up at 45 degree at the top of the table and not from the bulk end, which did a great job. We just played around using two Canon HS21 HD Camcorders set up at 45 degree at the TOT at the Oceanic billiards championships with stunning results, gives the non expert's an excellent view of the angles and side involved and required in the game, which is the aim, trying to get more players interested and trying out the shots themselves.
