  • Sweden are World Champions - again!

For the fourth time in as many years, Sweden has won the world doubles championship in 3-cushion carambole, beating Holland 2-0 in the final! The tournament was played over five days in Viersen, Germany.

Representing Sweden, also for the fourth consecutive year, were Michael Nilsson and the legendary Torbjörn Blomdahl.

    Well done boys!

Congratulations, even though it means you beat us in the group stage.

Blomdal is fantastic. How many world championships does he have now ?

I would say about 17 world titles (inluding 5 doubles), 10 european titles and over 20 swedish national champ. Plus being the first to average over two in an entire tournament and holds the current world record of 2.506, set in 1995 and world record for a single match, 50 pts in 9 innings (5.555), set in 2000.

I would put Blomdahl as the greatest carambole player in the modern era, though behind Ceulemans who dominated even more in his day.

Carambole is just another word for carom, i.e., 3-cushion billiards.

Although I hate to admit that this Swede, Blomdahl, is the greatest player in the world, I want you to take a look at how he demoralized Efren, not only in 3-cushion but also in Efren's own game 9-ball:

As far as I remember, there was talking about that he was offered a quite big sum of money to change to snooker in the early nineties. Do you know if there was anything about that story ?
