  • Billiards World Championship 2006

I have heard that players have stopped playing billiards saying there is no money in it or some such thing. Is it true that from this year onwards there will not have the "Billiards World Championship"? If anybody has got information about this , please post it here. TY

The World Championships is on May 28th in Wales .

Billiards is on the up at present, the amateur game has been getting record entries for their events over the last few months , and new leagues are popping up all over the Country .
The only thing needed now is some events for the Pro's !!

The Billiard community have their own community website now
    ( http://www.billiard-junkies.co.uk )
its been online for about 3 months , its been a much needed base for players to communicate with each other , good things have been happening since .

One of the good things is the formation of the Teesside Premiership of Billiards , Its a small league with only 12 players , the standard is very high , players include Current World Champion Chris Shutt , World number 3 Dave Causier , World number 11 Paul Bennett , plus a combination of National champions ,International & ex-International players .
Its played over a short format , 2 x games of 150up with the pro's off -100 The league is at week 4 and already there has been over 50 breaks over 50 , 16 breaks of over 100+ and 3 x breaks of over 200 including a 251unf (maximum) made after the opponents break off !!

You can view the league table here:
    http://www.leaguerepublic.com/gen/In...league=6224817

We will find out tomorrow if Cue sports have been included in the Commonwealth games in Delhi 2010 !! Billiards , Snooker , Pool , Carom are all expected to be included ....

    All the best

Yes Chris Shutt is also a great player. But i have heard that Mike is the greatest player in this game. I remember reading in one of Geets interviews that he(Geet) once defeated Mike when he was trailing by more than 700 points. He said this was the greatest victory in his carrier. Also Geet has the record for the highest break for about a decade or even more (1276). Which was in the 1992 World Championship. He is also the only Indian to have achieved the 147 in snooker on telly.

                Australians

I know Matthew Bolton personally and he is by far and away Australias best billiards player but I was wondering if he was respected in the world rankings and if he would be considered a chance in the World Championships. He also had a 135 break in snooker against me the other week.

Matthew Bolton has never been listed on the professional ranking list because he has never played in any pro events. He is certainly good enough to make a big impact on the World Championship should he decide to enter. As would several other Australians - Steve Mifsud, Danik Lucas, Joe Minici, Robby Foldvari all spring to mind. Unfortunately this year none of them have entered and it looks possible that the tournament may not go ahead, having received only 12 entries after the (extended) closing date.

Not yet , but anytime now .....
Its lucky its on this year , they only received 15 entries !!

16 entries were required for the event to go ahead , lucky for the 15 players who did enter the tournament organizers decided to run the event with only 15 players

Its going to be a interesting event , Mike Russell will be wanting his title back after losing it to Chris Shutt in last years final .
Some of the players might be a bit ring rusty with no circuit being in place at present , so don't be surprised if there are a few odd results !!

One thing for sure Chris Shutt is determined to hang on to the trophy for another year , he's just starting to find some form , last week he made a break of 631unf in a 45 minute exhibition match in Cornwall.

Whats happening to Billiards players? Only 15 entries? Why arent there any more entries? Are there any Indian players? I hope there are atleast 2-4 Indian players.

The majority of the players will be from India and England I suppose.
