  • Pool competition ideas for 10 people

    Hi All

I am running a work team pool comp for 10 people - just for fun. There are a range of abilities.

We have 3 tables for 2 hours.

I am trying to devise a tournament and wondered if there were any templates out there or tips people have.

Initially i was going to do a round robin so everyone plays each other once, but i don't think 2 hours will suffice for that!
So my current thinking is 2 groups of 5, each playing each other once in the group. Top 2 in the group go through to semi finals.

    Many thanks!

With your time limits, 2x RR groups of 5 sounds the best option.

You could do the semis as:
Winner Group A vs Loser Group B
Winner Group B vs Loser Group A

    So they play someone different

You could also say "winner of group stays on their table, or you could mix it so Loser stay on their table"....
Who do you want to give the advantage to, or if people start screaming and throwing their toys about, table for semis and final, is decided by toss of coin by you.

      1point for a win, 0 for loss

If draw in points, the winner of the match with both players concerned goes up.

        Thanks
yes a good point re if it turns out there are 3 people with same pints at top of the league I could do as you suggest…
I wonder if there are other eventualities eg alll with same points!? Mathematically screws with my head!

I had hoped you would not say this
          Mathematically, it is possible.

You could do 2pt for win, 1pt for loss, that should mix it up
Also then the "games won" would be considered after a draw in points, then if a draw, winner of match, etc.

            Haha

good plan! I’ll do that win=2, loss =1

we will play what I call “old rules” (although prob 20+years ago now!) rather than the world rules “must hit cushion or pot rules etc”-

will hopefully keep it less complex… but I’m still preparing for queries so have written a few rules down..
wondered if there is a rule guide I can get from the internet for “old rules”?

                          Dean,

I'd appreciate your advice on this one!

I have mocked up a group scenario, totally randomly and it it has come out where 3 players all have the same points (10), and they each won 1 and lost 1 against the other 2 players!
so i'm not sure how to differentiate and i cant even have a play off.

Note i chose 3pts for a win, 1 for loss.
highlighted yellow are the games between the top 3 (all on 10 points)
                          FIXTURES:
                          PLAYER Win Lose Points 3 1 1 3 1 3 1 3 3 1
                          6 Jon 3 3 6 6 v 7 6 v 10 6 v 9 6 v 8 8 v 10
                          7 Karl 0 4 4 8 v 9 7 v 8 7 v 10 10 v 9 7 v 9
                          8 Matt 9 1 10 1 3 1 3 1 3 3 1 1 3
                          9 Stu 9 1 10
                          10 Sudha 9 1 10
                          Thanks!

Under win, lose I would have matches played, not points total, I would have points total as a separate column It's easier to read.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!
