Poor Malta always gets drawn against the USA.. Not much chance for them to progress, but it will be an interesting tournament anyway.

I heard that they are having some problems in regard to a cue maker who tried to speak up against a local billiard association getting shot.
Another pinoy cue maker was shot to death in front of his children a few months ago because of his openly expressed view opposing the ruling billiard association.
Does not sound like a very safe place to be in my opinion.
About the tournament, I would not rule out Malta against USA.
I LOVE watching Tony Drago playing 9 ball, he makes it look ridiculous easy.
I think some European team may win the tournament.

reason for that is because it is easy for a snooker player.....all you got to do is master the tacktics and you in there.

Ronnie at the time said it wasn't easy at all because it requires a totally different tactics and way of thinking. He also wasn't that great at break-off.

As for the reasons he didn't persue, maybe he was bored but ... well the IPT tour he was competing in disappeared completely all together

thats my point mon ronnie couldnt get his head round tacktics so he gave up...

Alison Fisher mastered the tacktics and has been nominated to be inducted in to pool's hall of fame...and shes not the only woman to go over there and win tournaments quite quickly

hands up who thinks if ronnie dedicated his life to pool he wouldnt dominate it.

9/10 ball is a very different. The advantage in precise potting of a snooker player is kind of neutralized on a table with bigger pockets, and there are more shots required, such as break, jump, bank, combo, carom, kick...etc, which are not common in snooker. Besides, 9/10 ball also requires the use of a lot more side, and the cue ball needs to travel much more on the table, which some snooker players are not very comfortable with. It is also very important for a player to be able to read the pattern on the table. Running balls on a pool table is a bit different from running balls on a snooker table. Different positional shots are called for.
In my opinion, Tony Drago is the best snooker turned 9 ball player, he makes things look so easy--he reads the pattern very well, and he executes his plan always with brilliant simplicity.

the fact Drago had more success in a couple of years at 9 ball than he had in 24 years at snooker sort of shows how easier it is compared to snooker..

Ronnie did well in 9ball. In his first tournament in Weert he got to final losing to Immonen. All the top European pool players were there...there was no TV coverage. Wish I had a link for that event, but I don't...

Then there was 8ball tour in America, IPT it was called. There he did ok, but nothing special. I think 8ball is a worst game for him because there are hardly any long shots in it and break off is harder than in 9ball. It doesn't sound logical, but it is harder to make ball on the break with 15 balls than just 9. English players who play UK style 8ball did very well during that tour. Ronnie didn't continue with it probably because the whole tour collapsed with financial problems.

In World Pool Masters invitational tournament of 16 players, he got drawn to play Wu of Taiwan who managed to win World Championships at just 16 years of age. The kid is a phenomenal pool player. Ronnie had one or two bad breaks, one strange miscue, but other than that on open play he showed he's just as good as top pool guys. Wu only slightly outplayed him, it wasn't like Ronnie was totally outclassed. He held his own.

If he dedicated his life to it? He'd be at the top for sure, a threat to win anytime and anywhere. Domination? I don't know. In pool you can get so easily beat by lesser players. Nobody really dominates. Can you imagine snooker players ranked at 80 or 90 beating Higgins or O'Sullivan? Well, results like above happen in pool a lot. Tournament matches in pool are very short, much shorter than snooker tournament matches. This helps lesser players. Snooker is a much more rewarding game I think. If I were Ronnie, I'd stick to snooker.

what ive put in bold also shows how easier it is if you can get easily beat by lesser players and dominating is harder.
