  • Out of turn break.

    Hi all.
    I need a ruling please...

During a match between two teams, alternate breaks, a player breaks out of turn.
Game is completed and it is not until then, the teams have realised wrong player broke game.

    Any rulings on this one?

Does it fall under WEPF rule M ?
    Or ?

    Thanks.

Yes. If it is noticed immediately after the break-off shot, then the frame is reset and the correct player breaks off.

If it is not noticed before the second shot of the frame is played then the frame continues and is perfectly valid.

The correct playing order will then be resumed in the following frame so that the same player will have broken off three frames in succession.

(If the frame became a re-rack, the error could be corrected then, of course.)

There is no rule actually covering this but this was the decision of the Rules Committee some years ago.

      I'm surprised at a referee referring to a 're-rack'!

And just to be pedantic the error *should* be corrected then.

Thanks - but I've only just noticed this is in the Pool section so I've no idea if what I've said is right!

Same thing happened in one of my games at a county match once.
We were told by the powers that be that what Statman said above is the correct decision.
I kept the win. Our team broke three consecutive frames.
We won all three. They weren't happy. They'd been barracking all day. This happened and they were to busy moaning like women to barrack us for about eight frames.
The best of it was,i told them i thought it was their break. They said no. I then told them to check with their captain. He said it was me to break too.
I suggested we check with my captain aswel, and they started whining to get on with it.
So i did. So they couldn't even complain at us.

            Out of turn break

I play comp down in Australia. Generally, if it's picked up, captains generally agree to a re-rack to correct. Usually agreed too and rarely argued.
