  • 8-ball rule

Hello all. I am new to the forum. The reason that I came searching for a forum was that I have a couple of questions that I cannot find the answers for. First of all: In call pocket, the rules that I have state that it is never necessary to state the number of rails, kisses, caroms, ect. Only the ball and the pocket need to be stated. How does one differentiate between a great shot and slop? My friends and I have had a few good arguments about this topic. For instance, if the ball bounces around in the pocket before dropping, is this slop? If the ball that runs down a rail touches the rail before going into the corner pocket, is this slop? If the 3 ball glances off of the 2 ball before going in, is this slop?

Slop is when you pot a ball in a pocket other than the one you were aiming for.

Slop isn't allowed in most bar rules in America but it is allowed in the league rules.

Rules differ wherever you go. You can read the IPT rules on www.internationalpooltour.com but once again, that's just one set of rules. There don't seem to be a uniform set of rules anywhere.

I played in Canada once where you had to specify precisely how the shot would go. I.e. "I'll hit the 14 ball which will kiss the 9 ball before the 14 ball will go into the pocket." And if the 14 ball kissed the 10 ball instead, the shot was a foul and your turn was over. Very strict, there."

In call as long as the ball and the poket are called that is fine, the nminated ball must then be made in the nominated pocket. In call shot there are NO flukes. Therefore if a called ball goes into a non-called pocketthen the shooter loses his visit at the table. The ball stays down and the new player must play on from where the balls finished.

Hope that helps? Anymore questions fire away.

              As per my knowledge:
You have to call the number of rails and the pocket for it not to be a slop.
If the ball wobbles in the jaws and gets in , this isnt a slop. Its a good shot slightly off aim.
For the ball running down the rail and going into the pocket , neither is this a slop if the player has called the pocket.
The 3 ball glancing off the 2 ball before going into the pocket is a slop. If it isnt called.

Call shot vrs. call pocket bar rules

I want to see a written set of rules for gentlemans callshot as played in bar coin-op tables. If you know where there are some, please tell me. If you don't , check out the set that I am putting together and tell me where I am wrong.

It is easy to ridicule those that aren't like me. It is more challenging to show them the path to become like like me. BCA rules are a ways off for most of the people in my community. Just following ANY set of rules would be a monumental baby step on this learning curve. POSITIVE input is greatly appreciated.
