UPC Press Release
UPC Season 2011-12
The Universities Pool Council is pleased to announce the details of its programme for the coming season with competitions to decide the champions at individual, team and representative level. With many previously strong teams losing key players due to graduation and the expected participation from new teams, the season ahead looks to be wide open.
The season kicks off with the UPC Nine-ball Championships over the weekend of 25-27 November 2011 in Riley's in Liverpool. Defending champions University of Manchester will be in attendance with the primary aim of retaining their silverware, however they will face stiff competition from a variety of angles.
Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth will again play host to the BUCS-UPC Eight-Ball Championship, Trophy, Shield and Individual Championship concurrently on the weekend of 23-26 February 2012. This epic event will see last year's Championship winners Nottingham University bidding to defend their team crown, and an anticipated field of over 400 students seeking to emulate last year’s champion Will Jerram in the Individual Championship.
The season wraps up with the representative event – Student Eight-ball Pool Home Internationals – held in Manchester on 20-21 April 2012, incorporating the BUCS Home Nations. Team Ireland, buoyed by their impressive showing in Belfast in 2011-12, will be keen to defend their title against their United Kingdom counterparts.
