  • best tip for an 8mm cue

hi i have tried a number of tips, and cant find 1 that i really get on with, i currently use a ss kamui which has to be cut down from a 14mm and also cut i half, it plays nice but i dont think cutting that much off the tip can be good, anyone got any good recommendations, so far i have used blue diamond, kamui, elkmaster, buffalo and the mike wooldridge super tip

    thanks

It could be that 8mm is too small and that's what you are not getting on with, especially as you've tried a number of different tips.

best tip for an 8mm cue

My tip is approximately 8mm and i have used the MW Single layer supertip for years, best tips by far, i would definately recommend a single layer tip on a tip of that size.
Other tips to try maybe is the mastercue magic black tip and a good elk.

      Hope that helps

umm refine your cueing and technique, dont just say no tip is right for you if youve tried them all.

Depends on your playing style. If you play a lot of power shots you'd be best off with a harder tip. Try the gbl pro granite or a talisman soft which are still very hard compared to pressed tips, or try the buffalo diamond plus if you want something a little softer but still harder than an elk or regular blue diamond

Check out the clips in youtube of Ebdon. You could follow his way to put the tip on ferrule without cutting the excess.......

Just stick an elkmaster on it, they are the perfect tip for 8 ball, nice and soft!

best tip for an 8mm cue
Swap it for a cue with a bigger tip.

I think that's right as well. I used to play with an 8mm tip an to be honest you just don't need one that small unless you seriously lack any cue power!
I have a 9mm elk and can screw back two lengths of a pool table very easily!
A small tip makes long potting more difficult as well. You could put an 8mm elk on it then play it in so it mushrooms, this would mean you could keep the same cue but have a bigger surface area of the tip!

pool has nothing to do with cue power apart from the break it makes positional play easier with a smaller tip if you have a half decent cue action
                      tha what!

I was'nt suggesting pool was all about cue power I was making the point that there is not a single shot that cannot be played with a 9mm that can only be played with an 8mm tip, well in my expeience anyway!

Play with pool cue with which you are more comfortable and can play your best stroke. Whether it is 8mm or 9mm tip, it does not matter a lot. If your techniques are right then you can make best stroke with either tips.
