Screw back up and down the table with an 8mm tip then try doing the same with a 10mm with the same power, acceleration and follow through as before and you'll see the difference! I can and have played to a good standard with a 10mm tip at pool but you change your shot selection to suit. Sorry Sberry but you're showing you don't have a clue about pool, snooker is a harder game yes but positions wise you've got a massive margin for error, pool you don't, you often have just fractions of an inch as your margin of error!

Pool is an easier game than snooker but that's what makes it so much more difficult to compete at.
With the right application and effort, you can take a modest amount of technical ability and really do well at the game.
At the top level it's all the same in any sport, the cream rises to the top.
I will say this though. In my lifetime I have played and beat two former world pool champions in a best of 9. I am yet to take any frames off of any of the snooker players who have been in the top 16 at the time I have played them.
That highlights how awkward pool can be. You can beat the best player in the world one night and lose to anyone from the dog and duck the next night. The margins are too tight from the common players to the best.
My father is a former England pool International and has never made a century break at snooker. Dave Dolman was the same, although a better snooker player than my dad he was nowhere near good enough to make it as a pro, despite his best efforts.
Also, I think most pool qualifiers are on 7ft x 4ft now

I use the same cue for snooker and pool and it's got a 8.3mm tip, I don't have any problems with it when I play either.
I reply to OP, I'm using a 9mm Talisman Pro Medium which I trim down and cut in half, then shape.Last edited by JazzyJust; 18 November 2012, 03:33 PM.Justin - The Cue Store - Handmade and Bespoke Cues, Bespoke Fibreglass Cue Cases, Accessories.

11mm talisman pro soft on the break cue and 8.5mm cannon blue velvet on playing cue. have tried others incl. mw supertip (bit wooly) elk (just felt wrong) pool baron hornet (ok on snooker 9.5mm) normal pressed pool baron soft better, buffalo blue diamond plus (surprisingly good) titan is next. always remember it's all in the head, aimho of course.

Other tips to try maybe is the mastercue magic black tip and a good elk.
Hope that helps

"8mm tip" - had a league match last night and a team mate mentioned that he is planning to got down to 7mm ferrule/tip!
He currently plays with 8.75 ferrule/tip, I said dont do it, maybe go to 8mm but not less than that, but he adamant. So I left it there with a word of hindsight - "remember I said don't when you start whinging about the new tip/ferrule"Up the TSF! :snooker:
