8ball cue spec

The pool cue I use is 49", 12 Oz, 8.3mm tip, 27mm butt. But like JRC says, specs are subjective.

Similar spec to what I play with...

My current playing cue is 51", 13.5oz, 8.5mm. 28.5mm butt for UK Pool.

I've always played with a shorter light cue for snooker 20+ years back 55" 16oz and when I took up pool I got a custom made cue similar to my snooker spec 3/4 jointed 55" 15.5oz and got a short butt made for it (for tight spaces) and when I tested it out, I preferred how it felt which made it 51" 13.8oz so my quest for short cues continue to this day..

I personally feel that with the smaller lighter cue ball, I just have more touch/feel using something lightweight and short and I now have developed a very short backswing playing pool so dont require a longer cue.. I do have a cue extention for when I need to stretch on the long shots.

Again it's just what feels right for you... Every one is different

Custom made Cuecraft 8.5 mm tip 57.25" length and 16.5oz weight. I think a lighter cue is better for 8 ball, you get a better feel on the shots imo

Interesting you should say that pupski, I've been using a fairly heavy cue (18oz) for a long time and not long back I had to take it to have some work done on the ferrule and in the meantime i had a comp on so I used an old spare of mine. It had an 7.5mm tip and weighed 13oz and you're right the feel was outstanding, as a matter of fact I got to the final of the comp. Still using my heavy one but I might consider taking some weight out of mine :snooker:

Having used all sorts of cues in various weights,i have come to the understanding that my pear shaft mannock 17oz 8mm tip feels good to me,having said that a good friend of mine uses a 51inch cue and has 5.5mm tip which must be around 14oz,its trial and error really.
A lighter cue will give much better feel in my opinion,and i use a 18oz snooker cue to break with ...

Its quite astonishing how well he plays with it!A cue my friend has had all his life and has got used to,just shows regardless of spec of the cue what matters is how you feel with it :-)
