  • World rules - foul or not

In a league match last night it came up where one of my team mates played a shot and the ref deemed that he hit his own ball (yellow) and a red at the same time 50/50 and then called a foul. Was the ref correct calling a foul?

Split ball = foul.... You must clearly strike the ball on first.

From the official guidance to referees (World Rules):

        5. Legal Shot (rule G)
Simultaneous initial contact between a ‘ball on’, and a ‘ball not on’, is NOT a foul.

I'm confused. My WPBSA Official Rules Of The Games Of Snooker And English Billiards states "TWO BALLS OTHER THAN TWO REDS OR A FREE BALL AND BALL ON, MUST NOT BE STRUCK SIMULTANEOUSLY BY THE FIRST IMPACT OF THE CUE BALL".

            Why are there different rules?

            Thanks
The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

cheers for that, so looks like the ref was wrong in calling a foul.
