  • Pool - Billiards

Do these forums cover pool and billiards as well as snooker or not? It would broaden the appeal of the site if it did.

I think the inclusion of billiards could possibly narrow the forum's appeal

Perhaps, but its a game I know almost nothing about. Its a sneaky plot to get someone to explain the rules to me

Pool is an odd one, you have a multitude of different games in the pool genre and also the rules change between venues, of the few people at our place that play it at lunch they all swear blind their set of rules are the official ones.

Then there is the american version, I tried it once 9ball blimey its harder to miss than to pot one, the pockets are huge, nay not huge ebloominnormous they are, but i dont see why it couldnt be included if the need was there.....

I don't see a problem discussing pool, Unless the site owner does ? For the time being I would suggest Pool is discussed in the off topic until we clarify it

Yea, i think if you post any other sport topics with in the off topic forum for now. Maybe in the future we can include other cue sports in the forum. Its just the name that makes be think, maybe if we were to include pool and billiards, obviously this would attract the Americans and grately expand the site, but i feel if we were to do this I would have to change the domain name to something else. Whats everyone elses view on this.

I don't see a problem in disussing pool. It broadens the forums appeal to a wider range of people. But I also agree that it is an off topic dicussion. Though I think it is possible that the off-topic section of the forum could end up being dominated by 8 and 9 ball discussion when the forums numbers increase. May I suggest a new forum topic be added?...........'Other Billiards Games' Just a suggestion.

But since we're here. I love all pocket billiard games...and maybe a little One Cusihion Billiards when i've got my eye in.

With regards to the 'Official rules' of 8ball...there's no such thing. Each venue sets it's own rules. Take my garage for instance........it's a rule that, if you cause any of my Aramith Pro pool balls to leave the table and bounce on the concrete , I then have the right to punch you in the nose

If I was strict on the rule, I would have had to punch myself a couple of times now
But I can say that atleast I had to be blind drunk to knock a ball off the table.

The place I play my American pool (my number one game at the moment, still trying to get decent at snooker) has some bloody awful sets of balls... there's one set that have more chips in them than my local McDonalds. In fairness to them though, the tables are well kept and the cues are more or less straight... which is more than can be said for a lot of places here.

Invest in a cue mate, Treasure it, Cheaper to maintain than kids and a woman*

                          * Mod - This is my own personal view and does not represent the views of World Snooker Forums hehe

I have an American pool cue and a snooker cue and they both get treated better than my girlfriend.

In reality, I just spend a few minutes after each session making sure they are still looking good and there isn't any film or warp developing and I also make sure they are stored properly (i.e. FLAT!).

What defines a cue to be a pool cue or a snooker cue? They're all the same to me. I use my cues which are generally all the same style for any game I want to play.

Yes, I make sure my wife is still looking good, not warped and that she is flat on her back too. Huh? OH! You were talking about cues, yes, of course. So was I .
