  • Unusual break off shot

I was playing local league pool last night for my pub and i ended up playing the exact same person i played against last season.
Last season he smashed the pack and potted a few then missed and i cleared up in one visit.
Last night he won the lag and decided to break but instead of smashing the pack he hit the bottom cush with a little side and the cueball hit the back of the pack first.
Just wondering if anyone has encountered this type of break shot before and what its called.
Ive played many players who fudge the break etc but this is the first time ive seen this type of break.
    Cheers Matthew.

I take it, this pool? What rules are you playing and how many balls reached a Cush?

I've had this break off done to me in my very first snooker league match, the fella was a minus 45 player thinking i was fresh meat, i won on the black and he wasn't too happy, in snooker i think it's disrespectful but for pool i see it differently, as it's more possible to actually pot something from it...

I've seen a few players play the ball into the back of the pack with just enough strength
to get two balls past the middle pocket-line. The white stay stuck to the back of the pack
when you've got a good tight rack.
I always think of it as the ross McInnes break, but only because he was the 1st guy I saw playing it.

How's the new TW cue playing Matthew ?

            Standard blackball rules.
            2 balls passed middle bag.

seen it once or twice but don't really see the point you always leave an easy safety of the bottom of the pack.

Only time i've ever seen it is when someone was playing speed pool rather than a regular frame

I can't see the point to this in pool, much better to take in on.
