        are you sure?
8 Ball I am sure would be on 7ft tables (playing size)
why would they hold their World Championships on a table larger than their own byelaws state?
Do you have any links to the statement of 8ft tables?
        cheers

I have a feeling that the televised events I've seen have been on 8' tables, rather than 7'.

They used to play the televised stages on an 8ft table.

            Back to 7ft now.

The televised stages of the WEPF World Championships were on a 8ft table (7ft playing surface), normal size pub/tournamanet tables are referred to as 7ft tables but are 6ft playing size. I believe they swap to the larger 8ft table for the final stages as Sky thinks it looks better on TV.

I am also talking World Rules, not sure about BB but in the pubs/clubs would be the same size tables I am sure (some mates play BB and they are the same around here) but whether they change to 8' for their top comps, ?

I think it was just the world rules final stages that changed to the larger table due to Sky, any blackball finals I have seen have been on standard size 7ft table. Confusion is caused by the way the tables are measured, a snooker table is measured by the slate size whereas a pool table is measured by its external dimensions, hence a 7ft pool table is more like a 6ft snooker table.

One year sky didnt cover the world championships and the final stages were streamed live, the 8 ft table was still used

Yes, I've checked this today also.

8ft tables for Quarter finals onwards I was told.

I can see the slight benefits for TV coverage of the larger table, but I always thought it was a bit strange that they did this. The players play 99.9% of their frames throughout the year on a standard table, then when they get to the pinnacle of their sport they have to play on a table size they are unfamiliar with.

can I ask, are you saying that a 8ft table is equivalent to the 7'6" playing area as described in the byelaws?

This link gives you all the dimensions of the tables, the standard pub/competition table is the 7ft one, the "TV" table is the 8ft one, the 6ft one is normally for home use if there is not enough space for a 7ft table.
