Hi just a question about world rules. Had a situation in match playing world rules where I playede a shot to the middle pocket the object ball hit the back of the pocket bounced and out hit another ball. No other balls hit a cushion including the white. A foul was called as the ball did not go down or hit a cushion even though it went passed the rail to hit the back of the pocket. Team mates were up in arms as their argument was it went past the cushion must be a legal shot. I didnt argue as did not know ruling and didnt want to cause a falling out and accepted the foul. Anyone have any idea on what happens in this case? Thanks.

I believe what happened is correct, no ball was potted and no ball hit a cushion, so a foul
The definition of potted is a "scoring" shot where an object goes in and stays in the pocket, not "going past the line of the cushion".
Got to say, not come across this situation myselfUp the TSF! :snooker:

I'm 99.9% sure that's a bad call. Having recently read up on the rules for an upcoming World Rules ref exam, the back of the pocket counts as a cushion. You should not have been penalised for that. Take that up with the league if it was a league game!"You're not playing the player; you playing the table."

found it ....
EPA Guidance to Referees
5. Legal Shot (Rule G)
If a player plays a shot that causes a ball to enter a pocket and jump out, without making contact with a cushion, then no penalty for failing to hit a cushion will apply. For the purposes of the Legal Shot rule (determining if a ball has hit a cushion), the back of the pocket will count as a cushion.
so there you go, learn something everyday, thanks TommydaleUp the TSF! :snooker:

thanks for reminding me about the guidance document, not looked at that for ages.
Question for you, as you know the current rules and guidance, etc., are dated as 2009, have you heard of any possible updates coming up?Up the TSF! :snooker:

I have no idea as to future updates. I will ask around a few contacts and see what they say; if I don't hear back before the exam I'll ask at the exam itself and post the response on here"You're not playing the player; you playing the table."

Apparently there are only one set of questions that they ask, you know, one paper out of 250 marks. I do think the answers would be more useful, however ;D"You're not playing the player; you playing the table."
