  • English Pool????

    Hello Snooker friends.
now I say it again. Some of you have read my tread about open a café / snooker hall in sweden. I was thinking that perhaps i would like to have a couple of real English Pool tables. The thing is i do not know anything about English pool, and i don't think there is any hall in sweden that have a table for English pool.
could you please say what size a table is (Tournament ) size of the balls (that sounded strange )
Rules, different type of games you could play. In American pool you have 8 ball, 9 ball, 10 ball 14-1
is there any other game in English pool?

    Or link some Web pages

    Regards / Ronnie

Most common tournament tables are supreme winners. The 7 foot table listed is the normal tournament size. Balls are 2" colours with a 1 7/8" white (the white is smaller so that it can be returned out of the balk end of the table on coin operated tables). You can play snooker and 9 ball on these tables but its not ideal.

You can get spots and stripes ( numbered of course ) to use on an English table , make sure they are the right size , so basically any game you play on an American table can be duplicated on an English table . English table pockets are cut tighter than American tables and potting has to be more precise , but you can still play 14-1 , straight pool , order pool etc. Buy a set of Aramith Pro Cups as well and you can play World Rules or Blackball format to your hearts content. There is an EPA website with full details on table sizes and several forums to visit for ideas on playing format .Hope this helps.

Thank you very much rdsalt and old school
Saw no prices on the table rdsalt linked. are they expensive?
Wondering if one can change the coin slot so they take Swedish coins?
or maybe it´s better rent hourly.

Yes you can change currency. Specify when buying.

Winners in standard finish and cloth cost around £700 - £800 for a freeplay table in the UK and it costs around £200 extra for the coin operation option. You can pay extra for different colour finishes on the cabinet and you can upgrade the cloth although the standard cloth is good.

You can buy second hand tables for around £300 and as rd says , new tables are around £750 . Renting hourly solves the problem of " whos turn is it next " , but you miss passing trade i.e. the player who just fancies a frame while they are waiting for food or friends to turn up etc , perhaps you could have one table on coins and one on rental. Good luck btw , nice to see pool expanding its horizons.
