  • 2007 Mosconi Cup

So, the 2007 Mosconi Cup will be held in Las Vegas from December 13 to 16.
The first 6 players have been announced, they are:

    Johnny Archer (USA)
    Rodney Morris (USA)
    Earl Strickland (USA)

    Ralf Souquet (Europe)
    Tony Drago (Europe)
    Konstantin Stepanov (Europe)

Two debutants for Europe, but Stepanov is the European No. 1, and Tony is experienced enough, so not that surprising I guess.

The USA line-up isn't surprising either, although some say Earl Strickland shouldn't be there.

The format has changed, this year it'll be a best of 21, so no draw possible (good idea I think).

I don't follow it too closely but Earl Strickland has been a member for a while, right? Why do people say he shouldn't be there? Is his form bad or did he missbehave (I saw some videos...)?

It's mainly because of his antics, I think. Plus there are quite a few talented players in the USA, most of them younger than Strickland, and people always like to see new faces.

So, Team Europe has won the 2007 Mosconi Cup 11-8 against Team USA. Tony Drago won all 4 of his singles matches and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Cup, so well done to him!

Once again there were some antics by Earl Strickland, who refused to shake hands with Souquet and had some problems with Darryl Peach as well.

i watched almost all of it, and enjoyed it.

tony was great, though not outstandingly AMAZING on the table, he won his matches and played very well. deserved the best player award. he was also the gel that held the team together.

What on earth was that thing Earl Strickland had on his elbow / arm?

Some kind of weight to stop him lifting on his shot according to the commentator...

what next? Players wearing very heavy hats to stop head movement?

Earl does that kind of thing, its completely ridiculous. he's played in everything from arm-length gloves to sunglasses to...you name it really. the guy is a brilliant player but his behaviour is disgracefull at best.

I wouldn't say his behaviour is disgraceful. He is just a bit of an eccentric.

Does anyone have a picture of the device he used on his elbow?!

Well, I don't really care about him, but here are some videos about his antics (not from this years Mosconi Cup):
