  • Loop bridge

    Hey guys,
I've got a question bout loop bridge. Cause of the place where I live there aren't any trainers so I try to watch and learn from pro's videos as much as I can. Loop bridge is really popular bridge but I really can't seem to master it. If I try the loop bridge its really uncomfortable, the cue rubs skin hardly etc. Can u give me some tips about the position of the fingers etc please.

You may want to check YouTube for pool tutorials. There's a vast treasure of knowledge being shared there.

        good advice from elvaago....

check tutorials and videos of the top players, and try to copy, until it feels comfortable and you dont have to think about it when shaping your bridge

I've been learning a lot from YouTube and from Virtual Pool 3.

Virtual Pool used to come with a voucher that if it did not improve your RL play, you got your money back! It's awesome.

I never use the loop bridge. I find it awkward. And I don't even play snooker. Just pool for me. I sometimes get laughed at when I use the 'fancy' bridge but when I clear the table at 8-ball in one turn, they stop laughing. :-)

                    Very good point Semih,

Joe used the loop bridge for nearly all screw strokes, particularly at close range, though long screw shots were not really possible with the old balls to be fair. It was a technique used for screw (or draw) strokes by billiard players, before snooker really became popular. Joe of course, was one of the greatest billiards players af all time as well. It was just considered a way of getting the cue running lower and still fairly parallel to the table. I was also thought to provide a higher degree of accuracy of striking.

it doesnt matter if you conform to the norm, if you get the results, even though most "wont"

Haha, many of your posts are worthy of compliment, I just don't get on here much these days!

Alex Higgins also used the loop bridge for many of his deep screw shots and I even noticed Ronnie employing it at the Irish last week a few times. Maybe something he picked up off Ray Reardon?

I agree! There's nothing you can't do with a normal bridge!

Mostly true, but if you want to have a powerbreak from the bed of the table I would advice against a "normal bridge". You should also use a loop when breaking from the rail/cushion but thats generally easier to master anyway.

                              that MAY be true. MAYBE.

anyway, lets assume its true, just for this post......

my reply to that would be:-

that may be so, but using a loop bridge for some shots CAN be more effective
