  • English Pool - Practicing?

    Hi,

I am in need of some suggestions. I have started to take English Pool more seriously now than i used to and was wondering if anyone knew of any practices that would help improve my game

Because of the smaller table you obviously can't use the all Snooker practices for English Pool. I do the 'how may shots does it take to pot them all' during each practice session. Anyone got any new ideas to stop the repetitiveness?

    Cheers in advance,

    Stephen

Another 1 thats similar is 14:1. Clear the balls, but break where you finish from the last ball and continue. See how far you get, record is in to the several hundreds. Obviously playing against better/good players is always a good idea. Whatever you do i would recommend trying to maintain good levels of concentration on what you are trying to practice otherwise you run the risk of it becoming largely pointless. Perhaps the Uk 8 ball site might be a better place to ask.

        I got confirmation almost immediately...

What standard do you play pool to?

with regards to practice, i would concentrate on your stance and cueing action once this is sorted, or if your already happy with this aspect of your game i would suggest playing as many competitive games as you can.

Enter as many tournaments as you can and learn from your opponents, even if you lose look upon it as a lesson learned from each game.

Its amazing how much your game can improve from playing better, more experienced players.

Also i have managed to get hold of the world champs on dvd and have watched them countless times already, i have tried to learn as much as i can from them.

        hope this helps.

I can't play to a real high standard yet ie. i can't clear up often if there is 4 or 5 balls on the table. I practice once every week at least and also play some mates every week.

I have been concentrating on my stance + keeping my head straight and still but i think my cueing action is ok. I have been trying to get the World Champs for a while so if i get them, hopefully i can learn a bit from them if/when i get them.

          Cheers for the advice,

          Stephen

put a coin where you want the white to finish every shot and see how close you can get to it. positioning in pool must be very good.

The key to winning a frame of pool (world rules) is to get every ball on. Most decent players you come across in leagues can clear the table if they are all on but the best get them on with shots that dont just pot the ball but also bring another into play. Same applies to the old rules but with them you come across the fudgers that are only intent to get two shots by playing snookers and covering the pockets thus making a clearance all the more easier.
