  • Tony Drago wins French Open!

Tony Drago has won the EuroTour French Open, held last week.

The competition was very tough with 256 of the finest players in Europe, including all the greats like Thomas Engert, Oliver Ortmann, Ralf Souqet, Niels Feijen, Darren Appleton, David Alcaide, Konstantin Stepanov etc competing for the first place.

The Tornado was in top form as he went undefeated throughout the tournament, a total of 9 matches, winning both quarter-final and semi-final with 10-3. In the final he faced two-times EuroTour winner Christian Reimering from Germany and won 10-6.

Tony is now ranked fifth on the tour, having reached the final of the Austrian Open earlier this season. He is the only player who have reached two finals this season, and also the highest ranked player who have missed two tournaments, with Ruslan Chinahov on place 53 (!) the second highest ranked. Had Tony participated in all 7 tournaments so far, he would be no. 1 by some margin.

The whole tournament was shown live on http://www.poolmatch.tv/ for a fee of €5 a day. Semis and Final will be shown on Eurosport 2 (date not official yet)

I completely missed this one, I'll watch out for the Eurotour in the future.

        Anyway, well done Tony!

Some say if there would be a tournament which would combine snooker and 8ball/9ball Tony would be the biggest favourite to win it at the moment (Steve Davis, Quinten Hann and perhaps even Selby would be close though).

            Hey guys,

            ....and well done Tony .

And interesting one if they did combine a tourney of snooker & 8/9 ball, I also think Ron would be in with a good chance, watched a couple of vids of him on you tube playing against Johnny Archer, & Vincent Facquet in the North American 8 Ball Championship in Las Vegas, seemed to be holding his own.

.....& an interesting line up that would be, Tony, Steve, Quinten, Mark & Ron......

            Lol....xx

Agreed i think if it was a tournament which had both pool and snooker ROS would be a firm favourite.

Would be a good idea for a tournament, an olympic style comp with ever table sport included billiards, 8/9 ball, snooker eetc

I can imagine allround Steve Davis doing well in this too - certainly some years ago he would have
I saw that going differently in my mind

The format would decide the favourite in a combined event I think.

Sure, Ronnie would be the favourite in the snooker part, he would have a great frames won % as well. However, I think he clearly would be the underdog in pool against every player mentioned thus far. He had an attempt on the IPT (8ball), and he had some success, but not as big as he wanted I guess, and that's why he didn't bother with pool after that. He even played against Hann, and lost 8-5.
If the pool matches would be a short run to 8 or 10 than he would have a good chance winning some, but if it would be a run to 21, or perhaps even more, than I wouldn't bet on him.

And of course there are a lot of other cue sports apart from 8/9ball, like carom (Blomdahl and Sayginer both can play pool quite well, not so sure about snooker) and straight pool (would be very interesting to see the snooker pros competing at that).
I think there should be more "crossover" exhibitions, would be good fun for sure!

Sorry for derailing the topic a bit.
