Common sense has been lost to political correctness.

There are massive overreactions to the smallest of incidents today. It's pretty depressing. Take the Carol Thatcher incident for instance, what she said was rude, but 15 years ago she would have been taken to one side by the producer and given a slap on the wrists and told not to do it again. Now we have to have sackings, inquiries and a national debate!

Strange view on bringing up children... corporal punishment is rightly banned. Makes the whole thing look bad for me, even though in general I would agree that PC is going to far sometimes.

Maybe its the way The UK is nowadays, but we are not experiencing any of this. I think it would be right to mention peoples attitude in 1977 was quite different than nowadays. Its the citizens own action that often causes the authorities to react. If i just witness the binge drinking in England, its repulsive how masses cant even control themselves. Try that in Serbia, you get an ouzi poked under your nose.

Just to mention the dozens of stabbings taking place in London, is it the fault of the authorities? Give me a break. People are responsible for their own actions and should be held responsible for it. Blaming the authorities is the easy way out. The same applies for that child which was molested by the parents and died. of course the social workers were incompetent but where were the neighbours, relatives etc. They are as guilty as well

why do some people always have to bring up the Hitler issue? It doesn´t stand in any relation to this thread and it´s really unnecessary imo. I surely don´t want to raise a WW2 discussion, I just wanted to mention it.

Yes, you are right. In a way its always easy to point the finger at another country. As a neighbouring country to Germany we got over it now (but not forgetting the people that died and greatful to Britain/US/Canada to give us back our freedom), so lets move on!

You can criticise the British style of upbringing all you want but we haven't produced a genocidal maniac that plunged the world into war. We don't produce men who lock up girls in cellars for years and turn them into sex slaves. Germany and Austria have always been at the heart of this continent's mosts serious problems - problems much worse than binge drinking I may add - and countries like the UK, France, Poland all paid a high price. I'm sorry if it's a prickly issue for you guys and if you don't like our culture, but it seems to me the European way of doing things has caused more problems over history than the British. And I'm pretty sure again that if the world is plunged into war once more it won't be America or the Middle East or even the Russians that take us there, it will be Germany.

Well, heres a couple on british records

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in India 1919, 10,000 innocent men, women and children cornered on a square and slaughtered to death

Doctor of death! How many pensioners did he murder? 263?

Rosemary West murdering torturing, abusing ten girls at least. They were all buried under their house, so dont know what your on about! Its typical finger pointing again without knowing your own records!

                        here is an interesting article.

And I know my own dreadful history: dutch went massive into slavery and killed around 100,000 civilians in the indonesian war which only has three lines in the history books! Disgraceful!

Trust me Templeton, Germany and the germans paid a high price and we still do. I was shocked and disgusted by what I saw at Madame Tussaud´s a few years ago. A father encouraged his son (approx. 8 years) to do the Hitlergruß next to the figure of him. And the son looked so proud. What the hell do you learn at school? Sure, the son didn´t know about it but the father?? and your last sentence, I have no words for it

There were times when Britain didn't handle India very well, and it was the occupation of India which ultimately caused Britian to address its imperialistic ways. The problem is Germany never learns. I don't have a problem with the German people per se, most of them weren't around or at least didn't play a role in WW2, but it has always had imperialistic ambitions and they have never gone away. They are still there and taking the form of the EU. Germany should never have been allowed to exist after the War, it should have been permanetly split up and governed by neighbouring countries. The Dutch are a very simple nation and its people naive - very trusting and forgiving and easily fooled. Britain will always protect it as much as it can, but Germany may be too powerful to defeat one day once it completely controls the EU.
