  • Formula One 2009/2010

Just had to make a thread drumming up interest for the Formula One 2009/2010 season. Yesterday I was terribly disappointed that a silly change to the scoring system had been passed... Therefore imagine my delight when I read today that this has been cancelled. As a real fan of the sport I knew full well such a change of rule was never going to stand though stood in hope they'd rectify it before the first race, which they have done... I'm ecstatic! I simply cannot wait for the start of the season; Only one week away!!

Lots of excellent reviews for last season are out (I own the DVD and I'd suggest anybody semi-interested does too!)... Lots of good season reviews are posted on the internet, but to ensure this stays legal I'll point you in the direction of this one...

Last season; So many highlights, spanning 18 fantastic rounds. From Hamilton's first win in Australia, Kovi's crash in Spain and the tragic incident that held Sutil from a quality performance in Monaco (A Ferrari had to spoil the show, didn't it?)...Hamilton's crash in Canada made everybody question whether he was really good enough to be crowned World Champion... But in Brazil, on the very last lap, he did it!

I'm not a Hamilton fan boy, and in fact at the time I felt a little deflated he got the championship... But for everybody out there... I urge you to watch next weekends GP... It has not been so exciting in years...

Just keep an eye out for Brawn GP

I am glad you posted this thread, I am also a huge F1 fan and was thinking about arranging a TSF day out for the British GP.

    What do you all think?

I've always liked the idea of going to a GP but the costs have put a stop it. I'm really not sure if I'd personally be able to get the funds to go. It's a real shame as F1 is considerably more expensive than most other motor sports... I know a lot of people have gone to, for example MotoGP even if not real fans yet know very few real F1 fans who have gone to a GP.

One part of me is looking forward to the British GP being moved to Donnington as I'm incredibly local to it (If the wind is in the right direction I can hear it when the bikes race around it)... Though another part of me would love to grab a last piece of history as F1 completes its final lap around Silverstone.

If money were no object I'd choose the Belgium GP at Spa every time; I've always loved that track... And last years events have done nothing but add to the mystery.

Ferret, have you been to a GP before? If so, I'd love to hear of your experiences!! The only time I've been fortunate enough to see an F1 car in the flesh was at this years Race of Champions where Hamilton had a play in the McLaren and DC in the Red Bull. Considering the size of the track, there was no sense of speed but the sound of those mighty engines was stunning.

I'd be interested in hearing others thoughts; How many F1 fans do we have hear on TSF?

I have been to the British GP once, and yeah it is expensive from the ticket to a can of coke.

I have walked part of the track in Sam Marino, I was there the week before the race though

I was looking at the prices last year and it figures out cheaper to go abroad to watch a race for a long weekend than it is to goto the British race!!! go figure that out.

Well i have done threads before and most of you know im a nut! Even my 2 year old sits and watches it with me. Luckily i have done Silverstone for free due to work i was involved in.

But i must say i have no idea who will be strong throughout the year. At the beginning of the season its always hard to tell, but with the new changes its so hard to tell.

I personnaly think that scoring change in wich the the driver with the most wins would be crowned world champion is a good one. This way drivers will risk more and will give everything to win the race and not stay and be content with 8 or 6 points.
Or if this rule will not be applied than the winner should get more points. To win a race and gain only 2 points more than the runner-up is to little imo.
Not to say that by using this rule the players who are not in the championship race at the end of the season will not have such an important role in deciding the champion, as Glock had last season.

The problem with the most race wins scoring system is that in theory a driver could win the championship with two lucky wins and an eighth place finish, and fail to score in all other races. That would be 21 points. While second place could be one race win and 16 2nd places...138 points. Hardly a reflection of the better driver/car package.

In 2007 Raikkonen won 6 races and had 12 podiums and Hamilton 4 wins and 12 podiums. In 2008 Hamilton won 4 and finished 10 times on the podium and Massa won 6 and was 10 times on podium.
As you can see the top 2 had the same number of podum finishes.
I think FIA wants to reward the driver who is winning most races because the top pilots and the top cars are pretty much equal.

PS There are 17 races...if one wins 2 and other one race...there are still 14 ...who wins those ?....or do you really think every driver will win a race ? I seriouslly doubt that.

I simply am not keen that the season could be over halfway through the season... It would be unlikely but possible. Likewise, the situation where a driver finishes second every race yet looses the championship to somebody who has won one race also seems silly. Further more, in my eyes the "It will make people challenge for position more" is a not an argument; It only affects the guys in P1 and P2 anyway... For anybody further does the field they are not concerned with positions but points - In any case, it's not like they would intentionally hold back if they really were capable of a race win... Some teams simply cannot win races (For any numbers of reasons) and so a mid-pack position is still a good result for them...

Finally, for the top runners it does not promote the idea of climbing back through the field if they have poor qualifying or an off in the first few laps; Before they'd race hard to get one or two points... But in the schemes of things with a race wins system they're effectively racing for nothing... The teams would be better turning down the engine to keep it good for next time.

But none of this matters because we wont see this silly rule change for this year, at least

Oh, and as to who is looking good at the start of the season... Very hard to tell as during test we've no idea what's really going on but, this read on Autosport is very interesting.

I thought the "in theory" bit made it clear that it was unlikely. But what about three drivers with 5 race wins each but little else against one driver with two race wins and second place in all the other races?

                          GO BRAWN!!!

I know the 1st race is always a little random but that was great. Good to see Jenson on the front

Was quality I'm feeling shattered now after staying up to watch P3 and Quali but well worth it... Imagine Hamiltons pain now... Not only has had he a terrible day (Slightly improved by the Toyota incident) but seeing his fellow countryman (Who is often slated!!) convincingly beating him.

                            Well done Button.

Waiting for tomorrows race - I used to be a huge fan of F1, lost the most of interest after Schumi retired, but maybe this year I will watch every race again. I have high expectations about Ross Brawn, he has built very quick cars before, would be nice to see a new team doing well. Hopefully will be an interesting season.
