  • Jan Ullrich suspended for drugs!

    This has just been released!

German rider Jan Ullrich has been suspended by his T-Mobile team on the eve of this year's Tour de France.
Cycling's governing body the UCI has told T-Mobile that Ullrich is involved in an anti-doping probe in Spain.

Ullrich's Spanish team-mate Oscar Sevilla and team manager Rudy Pevenage have also been suspended.

A team spokesman said: "If we are presented with evidence which leads us to doubt the credibility of our riders, then we act upon it immediately."

Following the first reports of the scandal emanating from Spain, T-Mobile management asked all its riders to sign written declarations stating that they were not involved in any way.

Team manager Olaf Ludwig said: "We talked to the riders several times and even have their declarations of innocence in written form.

"At first we had no reason to doubt the riders' statements, but that situation has now changed profoundly."

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Ullrich was part of the investigation but he immediately denied any wrong-doing.

Ullrich, the 1997 winner, had been among the favourites for this year's Tour, which starts on Saturday.

Seven-time champion Lance Armstrong retired after last year's triumph leaving the field wide open.

In addition to his win in 1997, the German has been runner-up five times and was third last year.

I'm shocked at this as I am a keen watcher of the TDF. Anybody else interested?
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

Absolutely, snooker and cycling together are my favourite sports. I've never believed any rider was clean, except maybe for Ullrich. He was riding so poorly that I believed all others were a step ahead of him in the doping department and he was actually the only clean rider.

    Guess I was wrong!

And guess what, Ivan Basso (number 1 giro, twice second in the Tour, big favourite for this year) was also mentioned, as well as the Giro's number 2, Gutierrez and another favourite, Francesco Mancebo.

In a way I feel bad for the riders involved, because this Fuentes doctor is just ONE doctor...the others might just have other doctors.

All the riders are drugged (sp?), and it's a shame. Even in the amateur ranks, they're not clean....

It appears Basso and Mancebo have also been suspended

          Tour de Dope

The way things are going we'll have another Tour de Dope like in the year that Pantani won when one entire equipe was suspended. I forget which one, Virenque was in it I believe. Since that year, I've lost interest in the TDF, since it's basically become a random lottery as to who gets caught using doping and who doesn't. Armstrong has admitted to using doping, but he's never been suspended because he's never been caught. So I've focused my attention away from cycling and more on snooker, Sumo wrestling and some other sports that are either doping free or less random.

It was Team Festina, and also team TVM was suspended in 1998.

Armstrong had never admitted to using doping. He HAS used EPO but only as part of his cancer treatment. He has always fought allegations of doping abuse and never admitted to using them.

I remember before Ulrich ever banned for a couple of years because of doping issue, is that so?

are you going to support him because he is british (or maybe because he is a good cyclist)? or are you mad at him for taking drugs?

Both, it's a common thing to happen in cycling, but I believe he is now clean so will be supporting him
