  • Alton Towers (muslim only day)

on Sunday September 17th Alton Towers will be closed to everyone apart from Muslims.

Alton Towers staff will ensure there is no music, the bars will be closed and the entire park will adhere to Sharia Law.

I can't see this helping with relations between muslims and none muslims

I just wondered what your thoughts where on this. I dont want to see this topic turned into a race row.

I am especially interested in hearing the views of any muslim members of TSF and see what they think.
old enough to know whats its all about, too old to actually do it.....

I am on the whole against such things. I can see how it could have its advantages, but I am not convinced that they would outweigh (or be seen to outweigh, which is just as important) the disadvantages.

There are some valid instances where you might positively seek to harness the participation of a certain type of person – particularly a minority (ethnic or otherwise) – perhaps in the donor service where organs that are compatible with a certain race are particularly hard to come by.

But Alton Towers is not exactly in the same league as organ donation in the life-at-stake stakes, is it?

No. There is nothing stopping Muslims (or anyone else for that matter) from visiting Alton Towers on any other day of the year – and they will be properly integrating with everyone else if they did so.

Having said that, Alton Towers is a business and I guess is free to have a promotional day (which is essentially what it is) of any description they like.

So I guess it doesn't really bother me, but if I was a decisionmaker at Alton Towers it would likely not get my vote!

I've been to Alton Towers when the whole day was booked out for BT employees who had worked there for 30 years (and their families!) which was brilliant .

I know it's completely different but I thought I'd say...

There was hardly anybody there and I went on all the rides loads of times ^_^
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman
