Have any current snooker players done time in prison? You hear about footballers now and then getting sentenced but not really snooker players.

I saw both Jimmy White and Alfie Burden in prison ...well they played an exhibition match in mountjoy Prison in Dublin a few years back and it was a big deal back then. For the weeks after all the prisoners were playing snooker much more and it really became popular.

Have there been any other exhibiton type matches in prisons in england?

I think that could be dangerous, I don't know. It could be a good idea, but do you have a clue how it can be done? So far I haven't heard of an exhibition in a prison.

As I said this was a couple of years back and in Dublin. I think how it happened was that one of Alfie Burden's mates was in prison and they came up with the idea of doing it. It was something really different and one of the good things that happened while I was there.

Tony Jones the 1983 English Amateur Champion, 1991 European Open Champion and former member of the top 16 did at least one prison exhibition in the '80s. There was a piece written about it in an old Cue World magazine with a picture of him leaving prison - with cue.
