I had a conversation last week with a friend how many female athletes were actually male especially in the 70's when testing was not so evolved. Think quite some of the former gold medalists could fall in this category. I also remember a rumanian athlete but forgotten her name. she was a man!!

it was just said on TV (in between the pictures of a celebrating german, lol) that in 1932 and 1936 a polish woman won and she was male as well. I don´t agree with your comment about the former GDR athletes being male. Yes, it´s known that there was doping which resulted in women having to shave their beards but I don´t think there have been males starting in women´s competitions. Never heard of that.

How about snooker? Any chance there? though its not very profitable to change from male to female regards to the prize money in womens snooker. lol. yes agree on the GDR, can i edit it? how do i do it? I am new.

But there is no men's snooker tour. The main professional tours are open to both sexes, the only test is whether you're good enough.

Sadly, despite a few women showing promise in the 80s particularly, none of them made it to the tv stages of any tournaments. However, a few have reasonably good records – better than many men – in qualifying for the World Championship. Eventually a better profit margin in US pool drove them across the Atlantic to compete over there. (And who wouldn't?)

i tend to see it more as botling the challange of getting better and go off to play a easier game.

yes Womans pool is more lucrative than womans snooker but how i see it if they would have stuck it out and battle to get better there was more on offer and a far better job satisfaction for them if they made the grade at main tour snooker level.
