  • Usain Bolt

Is this fella the best sportsman on the planet? I'm sure many of you saw his exploits in Beijing and this week at the World Championships. He is truly phenomenal, the buzz and excitement when he is about to race gets me way too excited haha.

By the time he retires i think he will probably go down as the greatest sportsman/athlete of all time. What do you guys think?

Think it's hard to really say that anyone is the greatest, as Stephen Hendry would say then by putting himself in the argument then he's done his job. Pretty phenomenal though.

he's phenomenon. there have been great athletes before him breaking world record by 1 hundredth of a seconds, but he is now doing it by 10. and he does not seem to do his best at all. the term greatest is to be discussed, but he is great.

I think that bloke from South Africa will be faster given a couple of years!

Each discipline has his heroes but the whole world will remember Bolt for a very long time, Hendry will be remembered by snookerfans only I' m afraid.

And of course he is a phenomene, taking only 41 steps for his 100 m, his step lenght and frequency are unequalled. Other athletes need at least 45 steps...
I saw that going differently in my mind

That is actually a disadvantage , he is technically too big to be a sprinter or any distance runner ,[ i wont bore with the reasons why ].

In my opinion he is already the greatest athlete the world has ever seen as Bob Beamon [ never reproduced the mexico jump. Most of the great sprinters including Lewis , were allegedly not legal.and unless it can be timed or measured i do not count it . Other sports have contenders but don't include boxing as it is a subjective event .
His greatness is the fact that he has smashed , world records the four times he has ran major events [ 5 including relay ] the 200 m being the most impressive . I think he will go up to 400m and be the first to win the treble . Plus if he runs at altitude , i say near 19 seconds for 200, and 9.39 for 100. PS I WAS ON THE FINISHING LINE ,[ PHOTOGRAPHING HIM ]WHEN HE RAN THE 150 M IN MANCHESTER [ OH YES HE BROKE THE WORLD RECORD THERE AS WELL ,] HE RAN THE LAST 100M [ WITH A RUNNING START] IN 8 AND A HALF SECONDS !!!!!!!

Whether he is remembered or not isn't really relevant as far as I'm concerned. Every sport has its legends, Hendry/Davis in snooker, Taylor in darts, Schumacher/Senna in F1, Pele/Maradona in football, Sergey Bubka in the pole vault...I could go on, you get the point. Personally I don't see how you can really separate them and say that one has to be greater than any other as they were all brilliant in their own field.

Bolt is an immense athlete. If he enters his next meeting and only runs the 200m I'm convinced he will go sub 19 seconds! Its scary to think he ran a 19.19 whilst he was actually tired. The vice versa is true for the 100m also. He hasnt finished with that world record yet either!

Had to chuckle at the mascot imitating that daft pose he does

In his interview after the 200...

"It wasn't a good race but it was a fast one."

A bit like one of Ronnie's comments when he had the 147 in Belfast!

With all respect for snooker but millions of athletes in history already competed in a 100 m , 200 m ... trying to run faster and faster. So being the fastest man in the world is quite something. It happens in full stadiums and the half world is watching. People watching this like highbreak8 did in Manchester just know what a massive emotion is running though the crowd as well...and that's a dimension you can't find in snooker. Anyway I may be a litlle subjective here...

you have to remember also that he is only just 23 and as history shows sprinters dont peak till 26 to 30 years old so i think he will run sub 19 secs for 200m and if anyone can push him he could run sub 9.4secs for the 100m but as tyson gay found out thats not easy to push him close even when you run 9.71 you are a couple of metres behind still ,, so i think we may never actually see how fast usain bolt can run simply because there is no one to push him

just wondering if the IAF or other governing bodies have ordered a sex test ... if he was a woman, his records wouldn't stand, I think ...

more seriously peeps, I assume everyone is happy he hasn't been on performance enhancing drugs? or at least ones we know about ... he does seem to be smashing records by an awful long way ... is it possible he's found a drug the authorities don't know or can't detect?

in a different sport the Tour de France has been dogged by drug usage over many years and nothing seems to have changed this year ... these people will cheat!

which leads on to an interesting question ... what are the best performance drugs for snooker ... the only one I've found so far is not to get ****ed (drunk) the night before a match (albeit it at UK 8ball which is all I play competively) ...
