The Slovak hammer thrower Martina Hrašnová has just won a bronze medal.
Firstly, I was surprised we've got an athlete in this discipline capable to complete on such a high level. I was even more surprised I had been unfamiliar with the name, for even though I don't follow athletics rigorously, I am a fan and haven't missed a day of Berlin '09.
Secondly, I was cheering on her.
Finally, my euphoria was cut abruptly by a Czech commentator mentioning her doping history!
I've been trying to find a more information regarding her case for a couple of minutes. With the exception of a very brief IAAF:
Nee Danišová National Indoor Championships: 2003 (1st, Shot Put) 2 years ineligibility (3.8.2003-2.8.2005) National Championships: 2006 (1st, Shot Put & Hammer Throw)
I find it sad, though, that Tatiana Lysenkova's doping offence has been mentioned in incomparably greater number of Slovak articles regarding the Championship so far. I do not think I've searched the net so wrongly.
Athletics is such a beautiful sport that has been hurt by doping scandals more than enough times. The message about doping should be clear regardless of the sportsman/sportswoman nationality or the news media.
I'm curious what I'll find in the Monday's newpaper as it is quite late here to search for more now.
I know this doesn't involve Usain Bolt, but as there is no thread about Berlin '09, I posted my little rant here.Robbo's potting is so good he doesn't need to bother with positional play like the rest of the players. He laughs in the face of those who spend hours on the practice table perfecting their cue ball control! ~ Forman

Phelps again is a freak, but unlike Bolt his size is an advantage .
The poster who suggests Armstrong , i have spoken on many occasions re his [ achievements ] and they are looked upon with distrust to say the least .
Bolt's biggest problem will be himself, to stay motivated for two years, without a major event . Don't forget to break world records even if the athlete is in peak condition , the weather may be adverse . so future world olympic records at majors [ especially london may not happen ]

Armstrong is a big star but for me Eddy Merckx achieved a lot more in cycling.I saw that going differently in my mind

Just a recap of what he got up to over the last week!
There have been some brilliant quotes..... one I rememeber was along the lines of... "how fast can he go - as quick as he wants".
Pretty much true. I think 9.4 something is achievable in the 100 and sub 19 seconds when he's fresh in the 200. Considering he was a 200/400m runner as a junior could he even be the first athlete to take the 100,200 and 400m treble at the 2012 Olympics?!?
