  • tuition fees...staggering!!!

so a family friend's kid is applying to university the uk. obviously. his first choice is studying in london...his parents spoke to me about handling tuition fees.

to my discovery.....international oversea students (excluding EU I THINK) pay 12,000gbp PER YEAR!!!
meanwhile, locals pay ONLY AROUND 3500GBP PER YEAR!!!!

3500?! thats about 7 parris ultimates or 7 Hunt&obsorne black plates or 7 MW customs...that sounds okay...fair enuf

    12,000GBP!!?

    thats just tuition payment though.....

    ADDED EDIT:
so...advice for snooker dads in the UK...stop cue shopping!! hehehe

Lots of people used to measure stuff in pints back at uni lol. Never thought of cues! Might be because I never had enough money to measure stuff in cues lol.

Speaking of degrees did you you that there are two players on the tour that have one? Patrick Wallace has an accountancy degree from Belfast and Ronnie O'Sullivan completed a phd through the Open University.

To which university exactly and on what course is this kid applying for? I'm asking because I sent my own application for UK universities yesterday, including two in London.

This discrepancy in costs is very strange for me, because when I browsed through several top-level US colleges (I plan to apply to US too) the tuition was the same for everyone. Unfortunaltely the financial aid was often limited for international applicants.

In case I ultimately choose to study in London, what is the chance that I will have a good snooker club in the nearby of my campus?

its the same here in New Zealand, we pay about 1/3 of what international students have to because our fees get subsidised by the government .

I wonder how many players in total on the main tour have a degree?

Considering how young players are turning pro, I would assume likely only those outside of the top 32.

i have no recollection. the kid is really smart though. straight A kid, aiming for law major. i'd be presuming the big ones that offer law majors....so i guess king's college london, london school of economics and university college london.

i'd be really fascinated to know though. particularly whether or not if the player has a mathmetics or physics degree. it does have its relativeness to snooker and other cue sports.

I just remember reading somewhere that Steve Davis had done A levels and pretty much noone else. I dont know myself what exactly A levels are, I assume some higher secondary school/gymnasium level that allows for better access to uni?

And if I remember right, Ronnie mentions in one of those short question type interviews that he did not like (natural) sciences at school. Don't remember what he liked. But he did go to some quite a good school.

May I ask in which field did Mr. O'Sullivan obtain his degree?
