  • David Haye

Any boxing fans amongst us? Well, Britain's David Haye has won the WBA World heavyweight title tonight after beating the giant Nikolay Valuev! Quite an amazing achievment considering his opponent was 7foot 2inches and almost 23 stone. Bring on the Klitschko brothers!

I saw the match. It was crap.
And Haye did not deserved the title. Should have been a tie.
If he gets any of Klitschko brothers he will get knocked out in one round.

All I can say - heavyweight boxing is dead.

I was surprised that he had won when the results were read out, didn't think that he had done enough. Valuev seemed to miss with the vast majority of his punches though and I didn't think that he was particularly impressive either.

there was more dancing round the ring from haye than there was on strictly come dancing earlier in the evening, one of the worst fights seen for a long time but haye did just edge it with more punches landed i think... (8 compared to 6 in the whole bloody fight!!!!)

first 11 rounds were a non event... neither deserved it.

Haye nearly did the unthinkable in the 12th though, he nearly put the big man down.

anyone doubting haye's credentials to perform at heavywieght need to rewatch the monte barratt fight to see how he can perform against guys of reasonable size.

he's a credit to the heavyweight division and a badly needed shot in the arm.

You surely mean ukrainian brothers, Klitschkos? Because they are not russians.

He fought the right fight... as has been said if he had stood there trading punches there was only one winner. Haye had has hands by his side from about round 3 onwards when he realised Valuev was slow and couldn't really trouble him.

Very close to a KO in the 12th... correct decision.

It was the wrong decision. You can't expect to win a world title by running away the whole fight. You've got to beat it out of the champ, as carl froch said recently when he was outboxed-but more aggressive against Andre Direll. The fact that valuev is much bigger should not factor, is boxing handicapped thesedays? And Haye showed he is capable of putting him down, so why didn't he do it in earlier rounds? Instead he ran away and picked him off with the odd hook. No way did he do enough, Valuev was robbed simple

he did what he had to do to win against a very unorthodox fighter i think if/when he fights either of the klitschko brothers you will see a totaly different fighter in haye and can see him beating both of them.

                              Mr O

                              Haye landed more punches FACT.

his trainer said something along the lines of " if you land a punch and dont get hit yourself, you win the round"

it wasn't pretty but then no Valuev fight has ever been. you cant honestly have expected haye to go toe to toe with him?

Anyone remeber Del a Hoya v Mayweather?

Del a hoya was agressiver for 12 rounds Mayweather landed a better % of punches and got the decision. Dirrel tried to do the same against Froch and didnt. Fact is its all about interpretation. i actually thought it was closer than 4 rounds. but with close rounds they can go either way the only round that was clear cut was the 12th, which haye won emphatically.

Haye will destroy Ruiz next, and against the young Klitchko i fancy his chanches, he's got a lot to do if he faces Vitali though.... perhaps age may end up being a factor. the fact is though, Heavywieght boxing has finally got a fighter people will pay to watch and that is what was desprately needed.
