  • need help with beer selection

im hosting a little dinner party for a bunch of mates.

im looking for suggestions for beer:
    - stella
    - hoegarden
    - heineken
    - carlsberg
    - tetley's
    - guinness

im slightly inclined towards hoegarden or stella, but please, further suggestions and advice are always welcomed. its gonna be an awesome night.

so any input (ie, what u would like and why) would be very nice. =)

Pear cider is just about the only thing I drink.
Most of those suggestions arn't really beer anyway! Stella certainly should never be mentioned in the same sentence as the word beer!

Choose Stella if you want the dinner party to end like an episode of UFC....

as a former bar manager and borderline alcoholic i would say your best option lies with the generic 4% lager option... carling, carlsburg, heineken, fosters. stella is a bit much for some people, if you do go with a premium strength lager, budwieser or becks in bottles goes down well with most. bitter and stout along with speciality beers like hoegarden are aquired tastes... so avoid them.

finally a thread that i know something about!

From your list i would definitelly go for Hoegarden, but since you mentioned Hoegarden, i think you should also consider Franziskaner and Weihenstephaner! Oh what a sweet dilema you have there! cheers

premiumlager is usually between 5%abv and 5.8% abv. its not an official term but is common within the industry.

if your hosting a party i would only buy these in bottles as cans tend to get drunk quicker and then your gests tend to get drunk quicker too!

with 4% beers you cater for those who dont handle their beer so well and few people wont drink them.
as nice as hoegarden is some people wont like it which is why i would avoid it. its the same for ciders and ale and guiness.

for me if i was hosting a party for lets say 5 people id get a 24 cans of heineken, 24 bottles of budwieser a couple of bottles of wine and maybe, depending on the drinking ability of your guests, a bottle of spirits and a mixer (jack danies and coke/southern comfort and lemonade/gin and tonic water)...

this would cost me about £45 though so the friends would have to be worth it!

But THAT statement is... EXACTLY what I always say to Heine... I won't even spell it. The greenish H thingy, the anti-beer, as we call it here, the... horse p... Never ever ever will I drink that.

My favourite lagers are czech lagers, Starropramen, Budvar and Pilsner Urquell.

Another favourite is the Italian Perroni

forget them all and go with superbock from tesco or sagres from asda

you can not go wrong with either of them

and for the women.... superbock green (has a touch of lime in it)

thats just bitter and real ale drinkers

beer covers everything from lager to guinness....

if you want a decent pint of the bitter stuff then look no further than joeseph holts.

Try some Bateman's Victory Ale in bottles. Not as cheap as lager but is not bad beer. Has won lots of award at CAMERA. Lager is boy's beer!!
If you have a Morrisons, they are selling five for the price of four.
