What's up with those in these Olympics?
And I had no idea that there are so many different kinds of sledge-sports.. but well it means more medal opportunities for Latvians

Our biathlon girl, what I've heard of her from our commentary is that Bricis (LV biathlonist?) is her boyfriend. Oh and 1 of 2 commentators for biathlon/skiing was an italian guy with very funny accent and mixing up cases (word endings) & such, and much less reserved in congratulating or praising sportsmen compared to LT guy This italian is supposedly biathlon coach, would he then be the same for latvians? (But would he then learn latvian too? )

And you have a guy with surname Paipals in biathlon or skiing... He would have had not an easy life at school with such one in LT - does it mean anything?
Well, the thing is, both brothers have a chance to be in medals, but even the 1st place is not secure. Fingers crossed though...

As for biathlon team, our reporters say your lady is coached by our latvian coach, who is latvian. Not so sure if they are right, but indeed, Bricis is her boyfriend

Ah, the skier. Well, paipala in Latvian is a bird - quail in english

But I think I can guess what sort of trouble that would be. We have a somewhat similar word that might get people in trouble as well.

And aaaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhhhh what a bad start in the ice hockey match

Congratulations to Amy on sledging head first GOLD MEDAL winner. Mind you, after the winter we have had here in blighty, it's not suprising we have done so well. I saw many an up and coming sledger on Box Hill and they had to contend with labradors and pit bulls chasing them all the way. WELL DONE GIRL.

Aaaaaaand... Latvians having best olympic games in history, with another silver in men's skeleton. The gold was so near.. but I am sure the brothers will work like mad that next time their results will be even better!

She must have not know how bad this injury was, since she went on to compete (with delayed start), even got bronze in the end... coudn't smile much on the podium though. And pulled out of next events after figuring out how bad the injury was. She was one of the season leaders, probably the only serious hope of medals for Slovenia
Yeah, people here have gone insane over that. It's still all over the media. It's an even bigger story than the football team qualifying for the World Cup was.

Anyway, there are still some medal hopes actually, but most of them are in sports that are as boring as they get, so I'm not particularly excited.

25 and 24, I think. At least 2 more games ahead, if they want to continue to compete... I think they will

Yes, that one has taken over as the big story now, it's difficult to find anything else on the sports websites at the moment. I expect it to last for a couple of days, unless something else comes along. And then we'll get a week of interviews and analysis from various "experts" after the games.

Well yes, we have a luge/bobsleigh track in Sigulda (and all our medalists in these games come from that town ). Actually skeleton is a new sport here, I believe these guys were first to start it in Latvia not so long ago, maybe 10 years back, or even less than that. Latvian athletes have had some success in luge and bobsleigh, where tradition is longer - when representing USSR and also now.

How many crashes are there going to be in the bob???
That track is really badly designed
