Quite some tribute to indigenous people of Canada that was!
(I guess US woudn't ever come up or decide to show something like that?)

And didn't know such a singer exists, wow. Also didn't realise it's she
Co-winner of Spike’s 2009 UK Championship number of centuries prediction contest.

        RIP Noel. RIP.

Another great opening ceremony by Atkins and his team.
I was lucky enough to meet him in Qatar at an Asian Games media briefing and felt very honoured.
          Such amazing vision and creativity.

I loved the Canadian singers and the violin section was superb.

Sadly suffering from total sleep deprivation from staying up most of the night though!

Right, I know other countries have got more medals by now, congratulations to all of them. I will start the celebrations for Latvia - a silver in luge doubles for our brother duo. Look out for more brother power from Latvia later this week

Thank you! They did surprise us all here, we had bigger expectations from athletes in other sports.

                    Contrats to Latvia!
And Estonia's silver by Shmigun too.

As least we can cheer for 1 or 2 Latvians and Estonians since we're hopeless this time... Unless every single top20 women in biathlon today would miss some 2 shots more than our girl, then, maybe, her skiing speed is alright

Where else are the brothers going to participate - in some team event? I guess that would looks like 4 guys lying on each other?

lol. actually your biathlon girl wasn't doing as bad as our ladies - and she is coached by our coach (if our reporters are right)

We have 2 brothers in skeleton, Martins and Tomass Dukurs - they actually compete separately there, but since one of them is this season's World Cup winner and European Champion.. fingers crossed! Competition starts tonight.

And we have also 2 Redlihs brothers in our ice hockey team - unfortunately, the coaches didn't want the 3rd brother in the olympic team, that would be even better!

                        One dead.
One man standing in the slope in the mens downhill almost getting run over.
                        Biathlon start a chaos.
Women downhill, the ladies risking their lives because of no opportunity to ski the course before the competition.
Zamboni delaying the skating for un hour.
The couldnt even get the flame lit properly.

Well, it can not get any worse

Is anybody else fascinated by curling?

Could be the loose related elements to snooker that I love so much but it's like watching a lava lamp to me!

Yes, Curling really seems a bit like Snooker to me. Not that fascinating, but well worth watching. I used to watch all kind of winter games in recent years, but now only Curling and Ice Hockey. No sports to get medals for Germany, but patriotism is lame anyway

                              Oh welcome!

Pitty Shmigun steped out of the race today :/
And pitty the other brother is just 6 or so in Skeleton, hope the other one finishes off the job tomorrow, and then Latvia gonna be almost equal to Russia in medal count
What's up with those in these Olympics?
And I had no idea that there are so many different kinds of sledge-sports.. but well it means more medal opportunities for Latvians

Our biathlon girl, what I've heard of her from our commentary is that Bricis (LV biathlonist?) is her boyfriend. Oh and 1 of 2 commentators for biathlon/skiing was an italian guy with very funny accent and mixing up cases (word endings) & such, and much less reserved in congratulating or praising sportsmen compared to LT guy This italian is supposedly biathlon coach, would he then be the same for latvians? (But would he then learn latvian too? )

And you have a guy with surname Paipals in biathlon or skiing... He would have had not an easy life at school with such one in LT - does it mean anything?

Pretty much second that, I saw that women downhill too, there a bigger worry was if a person falls and how badly, not if the leader's time is overtaken. Some 3 out of 6-8 major contestants for medals crashed out, that is a bit too much even for naturally risky alpine skiig And US gold medalist was smiling & waving more than being horrified.. well but one has to celebrate success too..

Slovenian cross-country skier got her ribs broken at a fall in practice right before classic sprint - there were quite many falls at the same turn where the track due to bad preparation was too icy for their type of skis!
She must have not know how bad this injury was, since she went on to compete (with delayed start), even got bronze in the end... coudn't smile much on the podium though. And pulled out of next events after figuring out how bad the injury was. She was one of the season leaders, probably the only serious hope of medals for Slovenia
I think it was the same turn where a few skiers fell in men's sprint final.
