God, i hate to disagree with you again.... but do you really think that dobermans "a relatively new breed" was the first/only breed bred for guarding?

Theres many breed of dogs that were bred for guarding, if not most early breeds were bred with 'guarding' in mind... (some no longer around) many many centuries before the dobe was even a thought of Mr dobermann...

People have been messing around for centuries trying to get dogs a certain way for certain traits/looks etc...and i can assure the dobe was'nt the first/only dog bred with this in mind...

name me another dog that was bred specifically as a guard dog?

people think german sheperds, rottweilers, staffies, etc etc was bred for guarding there wasnt.

alot of other dogs have guarding insticts in them but not bred for that purpose... doberman was a german dog that was made by a tax collector cause he kept getting mugged and got a guard/protect dog to stop it, dobermans are so highely intelligent to there have been used as police dogs and guard dogs and are in the top 10 most intelligent dogs ever.

there are an old breed now yes you dont see them around much... reached there peek in uk in the 80s and 90s so i heard, still big over usa though with the more aggressive look with cropped lugs and docked tail

snookerfan, what about a security guard with some impressive gun instead of a guarding doberman?

No need I don't use my dog as a guard dog but it is already in there nature to protect and guard.

Why do you want a dog tattoo? What does a doberman symbolize?

Herr dobermann was apparently a tax collector...but also a dog catcher/skinner, and a night watchman. seemed he was a very busy fella, no wonder he died so young eh...
The first dog's herr dobermann had never much looked like the dobe as you now know them really, early 1's sometimes looked similar to rotties, with a few variations in looks in the early years...I doubt Herr dobermann ever had a dobe by his side 'guarding' him that looked like the dobe we know of today.. there were other breeds introduced and bred after Herr dobermann died to get them to how they predominantly look today, and dobes aint an old breed you fool, their a relatively NEW breed.

And i'm not going into naming dogs that were bred for guarding , but if you are naive enough to think the dobe is the only/first breed to be bred for that you are dopier than i first thought...

The dobermann... It's a 100 (just over)year old breed for gawd sake, you really think that dogs were'nt being bred for guarding CENTURIES before....

Dogs have been taken advantage of for these traits for a long long time..What do you think 1 of the main reasons for dogs becoming domesticated was for? and why did people start manipulating breeds many centuries ago for?....

Lot's of reasons and different ideas behind what people wanted a dog for/to do really, but i can tell ya now that breeds were being manipulated to what people wanted way before the dobe come along my friend...and YES that included breeds being bred with Guarding in mind. some small, some large, all for different roles but none the less lots of breeds have been bred to guard over the CENTURIES. the dobe only being just over a century old, well, think about it, it's common sense really...

Now stop talking rubbish will ya......

The dobe is just a cross breed sheep dog really,(amongst other breeds) that's where the intelligence comes from.........
