The brilliant thing that Arndt has done is that he has put out several "Radio Goethe" compilations, where the bands basically donate their songs for the promotion. The CDs cost $5. I have a couple of them, and though most of it, often being a lot of industrialish style bands, isn't my thing, I have discovered several bands. It's a pretty good promotion channel.

I never listen to internet radio stations either, unless RG has something extraordinary going on. If you're into German music, the Herzeleid (Rammstein) forum is quite good, btw.
As I see you're more into the guitarish, electro-metal/industrial rock/crossover stuff (I really hate to use these subgenre names..). I like the more electronic sound, but that doesn't mean I don't listen to songs which have guitar in it of course. I must admit that i don't know most of the songs on those compilations, but there are some interesting (for me well-known) names on it as well (Northern Lite, The Fair Sex).
As for German music/Rammstein: I listen to a lot of German bands, but not because they're German, and not because I like German lyrics that much (I prefer English ones). I listen to them because a lot of them makes good music. Rammstein is well.. not really my favourite band. They do have some good songs (Sonne, Mutter), but I find them pretty boring, if not annoying.
I don't want to write more about them, because I have a bad habit to slag off bands I don't like, and I know a lot of people like them (they're mainstream enough) so I don't want to offend anyone. I might check out that forum though.

I love heavy metal and REAL punk rock (none of this pop-punk crap), and if I won the lottery I would use some of the money to build a CD collection so ridiculously large that it would take me years to get through it.

In no particular order, my faves are:

        Rose Tattoo
        Gamma Ray
        In Flames
Discipline (they're Dutch and successful - almost like the antidote to Roy Stolk)
        Falkenbach
        Ultima Thule
        Bal-Sagoth
        Resistance 77
        Stratovarius
        Zero Hour
        Nasum
        Section 5
        Condemned 84
        Rush

I think I had better stop typing or else this list will turn into three pages.

Bands I have little or no knowledge of... maybe I should check them out. I'm always up for new things. And yes, the uhm harder crossover things mixed with folk and/or punk and/or industrial elements rule my CD collection (subgenres are silly: "electronic medieval comedy folk rock" being one of the silliest).

I don't frequent that forum because of Rammstein, but because it is a fairly good place to discuss news and what's up in the "alternative" music scene in Germany. I don't care about which language the lyrics are in, as long as I understand them

I'm with you there! I'd so overuse my account at a couple of distributors And then I'd toss out everything "not vital" in my apartment and get myself a snooker table.

I used to like them a lot, but not anymore. Their last two albums aren't really that great. The reason I did... dunno. It was something completely else. I didn't understand much of the lyrics at the time, but these days I do and I find them above average silly (some are good, though: Halleluja, Dalai Lama, Mutter, Spieluhr). Their live shows are really impressive, but the act gets old really fast and the last time I saw them I was more interested in the warmup act.

"Herzeleid" (their first album) is really good for going for a walk whilst angry, though

Oh well, but the presenters are -well,how shall I put it - I guess I'm too old for their kind of humour sometimes. Though there are some exceptions...
I prefer Radio Eins, they try every now and then, too.

And driving your car really fast over the Autobahn!

Anyway, I had the same feeling with their last two albums, however, I've learned to like them. In fact, now I think they're brilliant apart from two or three songs! They just need a bit more time. Of course they're completely different from Herzeleid.

My favourite styles of music are Gospel, Soul, Blues, Classical, Rock, Gangster rap and rave. I feel fortunate that I can enjoy many different types of music.

Maybe I'll name some other bands you might like (I'm too tired to search for them now), but I don't want to tell anyone what they should listen to.

subgenres are silly: "electronic medieval comedy folk rock" being one of the silliest
Wow, that really is silly.. Some people call Rammstein pseudo industrial-metal, because they can't accept to call them "real" industrial (which understandable btw.).

I don't care about which language the lyrics are in, as long as I understand them
Yes, the meaning of the lyrics is important as well.

if I won the lottery I would use some of the money to build a CD collection so ridiculously large that it would take me years to get through it.
The funny thing is that I know quite a few people who didn't won the lottery, and are not millionaires by any means, yet they have a huge collection of CDs/LPs (2-5000). Dedication (and a lot of years) is the answer.
