I use Nokia E71 and I am quite happy with that one besides the small keyboard and display.

I had an iPhone for three days and gave it back because it is a nice teenager gadget but not the business phone as Apple advertises it.
Was not able to connect properly to my car because of missing bluetooth protocols and VPN connection to the company exchange server was difficult.

I looked at HTC HD2. Great phone. Also in size. But really cool display. But I am no fan of Windows Mobile.

I'd go for the N900: Big display, nice display and all the Nokia functions I know from previous phones.
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

I do like the N900 very much, but one of the things that puts me off is you can only use the phone in portrait mode when making a phone call. Not sure if this would be fixed after a firmware update at some point..

Hello I'm new here and don't know anything about snooker but I do know about phones.
So I had Nokia N97 what a rubbish phone, very slow 128mb ram and non responsive screen. Faulty GPS etc etc. I sold it and bought Samsung Omnia HD i8910 which has 3.7 amoled screen(beautiful thing) It has 600mhz cpu as N900 it has 256ram as N900, but a bad thing about it is Symbian. If you would ask me to chose between N900 and samsung, I would go for N900 hands down, because it is the best phone on the market at the moment. Maemo 5 is very very fast OS but it still has a lot of bugs, they should be fixed in few updates. BADA OS (samsungs own OS) I heard about it a lot and people say it is a big FAIL, very unintuitive.
So now it is your choice Capative screen vs resistive screen
        AMOLED vs LCD
        32GB vs 8GB
        Maemo(Linux) vs BADA.
If you have any more questions ask And sorry about my English,it is not my native language.

Thanks for your input and your english is fine. Do you know if Opera 5 or 10 would work well on the Samsung S8500 at all?

Bada OS is new and nothing works on it yet I think, just like linux.
Maemo has got a very good browser which can view flash websites youtube and things like that, very smooth too.
Maemo linux is new software for phones but BADA is realised just what few weeks ago ? And as I have samsung I know there aftersales care like new firmwares and bug fixes ar not very good,i think you should be better of with nokia.
and ARM Cortexx 1GHZ procesor in Samsung is tempting too Nokia has 600mhz
This is a very tough choice but Nokia N900 has proven it self already, and samsung wave don't know yet, maybe try to read reviews ? It might not be as good as it looks or sounds.

Am i the only one that prefers resistite touch screens?
Having to use your finger with no possibility of stylus is a real drawback in my book
Also my nokia 5530 has an oled screen and it really is much better than the lcd in my friends 5800
On the subject of using nokia though my experience has been poor (and thats generous). Back before ovi store allowed redownloads of software it took me 2 months of back and forth emails to get a redownload link sent to me!!! Oh and if anything goes wrong... Reset your phone is thier answer. Far be it for them to fix the problems. They actually referred me to nokia care point 20 miles away, and when i went there the guy told me the only thing he could do was update the firmware (to the broken one i already had!!!) or reset my phone. Basically nokia like making phones with great features, but don't care about the software to back it up. Also firmware updates and extremely slow and don't actually fix any real problems.

Do you know anything about samsung ? Do they fix anything ?
If you don;t I will tell you. Last year Samsung Omnia HD i8910 was released, saying it can record 1280 x 720p 24p and full kinetic scrolling, and video editor and bla bla bla .
So it did not record 24p/sec it did it 21-22 frames per second and a lot of dropped frames, audio was like old war phones, when you record something you can not understand what music is there or who is talking and what about. They used very old arm codec which was used 5 years ago in nokia phones.
There were so many bugs in firmwares and features missing, and nobody cared about them, samsung stopped producing these phone 3 months after release and promised to do rerelease later same year, they did not, no firmwares where fixed, no bugs fixed, just promises promises. SAMSUNG is worst company now for me because they just left all i8910 users with little shiny brick. After online petition and few good website reviews about this phones faults and that samsung does nothing, they released new firmware that had kinetic scrolling but HD recording was very poor, so phone was released 2009 may and just this month one software developer(Not samsung) fixed camera so we can record 24p/s changed sound codec so it is acceptable quality, almost all bugs fixxed and so on.
You don't know how good is Nokia until you get something like samsungs after sales care.
Lately nokia made some bad phones. N97 ; X6 with 4 years old processors and these phones can not even handle Nokia's own Ovi maps.
sorry for such a rant, but Nokia is very good.

resistive screens are good until you scratch them and if you have stylus with you all the time, they are very precise. Capative screen have glass screen so scratch resistant and very responsive.
AMOLED vs LCD nothing to compare there

Sorry again for such a long post.
Back to topic, buy Nokia N900

Do you all really need a 1 GHz CPU and an OLED screen? If it sends text messages and you can call people surely that's all you need? I pay on average 10 quid per month for my three year old Nokia. I can't really justify doubling what I pay to have a spirit level or to be able to play HD movies on the damn thing!

My spirit level is quite useful actually and GPS, google maps etc. in particular is very useful to always have in your pocket.

Well i have decided to wait till there are some reviews on the Samsung S8500 before making any decisions. Reviews are generally good for the N900, so the Samsung will have to fare as well or if not better for me to seriously consider it still.

I have taken on-board F3rAL your comments on both phones, & you indeed make some valid points. Both the N900 and S8500 have their good and bad points.

Well yes spike they both have good and bad points. Wait for reviews and compare them to what N900 say, they are very different phones, N900 is for social life, integrated skype and other stuff, and samsung is eye candy I think.
Yes samsung has got hd video recording, but does it work ? Or is it like it was on my phone ?
It has Amoled (If you need it)
                            Capative screen scratch resistant
1GHZ do you need it ?
full qwerty keyboard, useful I think
Linux maemo 5 known and very fast and nice firmware
                            Nokia's aftersales firmwares, bug fixes.
I don't know anything about bada OS but if it is completely new OS than you will have no apps for it.
P.S. I fou want AMOLED, capative and Symbian phone get i8910
It has bugs and it has some eye candy, it records 720p video but the sound is not very good
8MP camera very good for photos.
You can get second hand one for £200-250.
And you will have Andy (aka HyperX)
                            The choice is yours

After doing more research, i found the HTC Desire HERE to be my new phone.
Had it for a couple of weeks now, and so far i am impressed with it..
